Camping World in Robertsdale Alabama

I had an interesting conversation with a service technician at Camping World in Robertsdale Alabama.

They have a very large service facility. It is divided in to 3 divisions. The one closest to the service writers station is the PDI center. The ones after that are service centers for motor homes and trailers.

I had been able to talk to a service technician doing a PDI. When I referred to what he was doing as a “pre delivery inspection” his comment was “this is not a PDI but a completions inspection”.

Now ladies and gentlemen think about that stamen!!! If in reality Keystone is depending on the dealers to complete the unit before delivery what does this mean?

In my opinion this means Keystones lack of oversight to determine that the dealer is capable and has qualified workers to do this is just plain cheating the buyer.

Sounds more like the dealers are the one's getting screwed. Keystone seldom fully reimburses warranty costs. This sounds like a good dealer taking a reasonable approach to making sure customers are satisfied.

Our dealer also stated a " completions inspection " that they had to correct " the little things" before they could put it on the lot. Not the warm fuzzy I would expect for a high dollar investment like our Montanas.

I keep a spread sheet with recommendations from here as to where to take our rig for repairs if we are in the area. Also a second list of where not to take our rig. I went to add this dealer to the plus side of the spreadsheet and found that a number of our members had already given them a positive review.

Please ladies and gentleman don’t take this as a complaint about the Camping World in Robertsdale. The business I did with them was very agreeable.

I did not take it that way, just the opposite, a dealer taking care of customers. Many do not make the effort, push the rigs out and deal with customer complaints later. Many of us just fix stuff on our own, I do. Less work for them

I would think that a 'completion station' would be where the dealer preps the rig, installs the batteries, fills the water tank, fills the propane tanks, checks all the systems, water heater, fridge, water pump, heater, A/C, etc, prior to delivery. They come to the dealer dry and without batteries, so there is quite a bit of work to do prior to the customer actually doing his PDI and taking delivery. On ours, they found a leaking hydraulic line that they replaced prior to us picking it up.

I'm not concerned with what they call it, if Keystone does it or which department at the dealership takes care of making sure my new unit is ready for delivery. Just glad all those little things are taken care of and I have very little to point out during our PDI.

I would also like to give kudos to the Robertsdale Alabama Camping World. I have been there three different times. Each time they went out of their way to provide good customer service. Some of their service techs are average, the rest are very good. I haven't met a "bad" one there yet. The difference comes from the top; it's an overall commitment within that organization to old fashioned customer service. Curtis Bishop is the General Manager.

Two out of the three times I had to leave my camper there for repair. Both times the service writer has provided unsolicited status updates to me on the repair progress, parts orders, warranty approvals, anticipated completion dates, etc. They have also gone out of their way to expedite the repair process, for example, (maybe I shouldn't tell this) - while troubleshooting a difficult problem with my leveling system, instead of ordering a suspected bad circuit board from Lippert and waiting three weeks to get it in, the technician "borrowed" one from a new unit on the sales lot for testing. He didn't have to do that, but it probably saved three weeks waiting for that part.

Ironically, the only negative experience I've had with that facility WAS their PDI (I bought my unit there). They didn't do much of a pre-PDI checkout themselves, and that resulted in a lengthy laundry list of fixes that had to be done before I would accept the unit.

Never-the-less, I wish all RV repair facilities provided good service like that.
