floor
Want to replace the(sponge) particle board floor with the real(fir)plywood in the living area of our 2013 3100rl.How much stuff is fastened to the bottom of the floor? Does the under belly need to be removed? Has anyone done this update to the Monty?Should have ordered it with such.Would do the dining area under the table also.Thanks John R.

You may want to rethink doing that. The floor material is actually engineered flake board, and is the full width of the rig. The walls are mounted to the top of the floor material, so you would have to totally dis-assemble the entire rig. This floor material is much stronger than most of today's plywood, and does not have the voids common in plywood.

Like Bob said ... definitely not something that would benefit your unit. The floor material is a Keystone trademark as it is one piece where as other manufacturers have tongue and groove 4 X 8 pieces. Unless you were to lay your fir plywood on top of what's already there (which would open up a whole other can of worms with slide operation) you will be compromising the structure of your unit trying to rip up the flooring. You'd be miles ahead just having a custom unit built to your specifications by a SOB. Here is a good video of how the floor is attached at about 1:20 into the presentation.
If you are complaining about the floor giving under your feet, it is more the structural cross members in your frame ... they just aren't very structurally stout. I've been underneath the flooring before ... I've seen the cross members.

Why not come to the Fall Rally this next fall and join us to learn more about the construction of the Montana. Besides the video that dieselguy has listed in this thread you will actually get to go on tour of the plant/factory and see just how the Montana is put together from the frame upside down at the beginning of the line to the finished product at the end.

What is "engineered flake board"? Is that actually OSB?

I haven't taken the time to find out about the resins used in its construction, but I do know that it is totally surface sealed which osb isn't...or wasn't when I worked for a general contractor to gain some home building knowledge. And the give you feel underfoot is what is under that engineered flooring...and...could be caused by the engineered flooring not being bonded to the aluminum flooring grid. In the bedroom, the flooring is nailed down as I have several of these nails that missed the structure and can be seem poking out beside the structure in the pass through area. Didn't see how they secured things in the back part of the monty during the factory tour. Oh, yeah, some units were built using plywood and I was told that it was dependent upon supply availability... john

Thanks guys for the heads up,thought I could cut out the floor an replace,Guess we'll have to put up with the bounce.Was planning to go to the rally this fall,hope to meet a lot of you then an talk shop.Now it's time to get it ready for the RGV in a couple wks till end of Mar.Thanks again John R.

On two of the plant tours that we have been on the person doing the tour stated that the flooring material is guaranteed for the life of the rig. If you want less give as Diesel Guy said add more supports, but I wouldn't mess with the sub-flooring.
