Hot Water Heater Thermostats

Okay, which is which?

There's one with blue wires and one with red wires.

Which is propane and which is electric?

Thanks!

Are you talking wire color or the lug color?

Gas should be the red wire. DC Positive.

Black wire is the AC side.

I cant guarantee that they always use the same color lug insulators.

I'd also be hesitant to offer too much without knowing for sure what you are looking at.

On my rig, the electric one is on the left. The black wires are for the electric thermostat, the red wires are for the 12V thermostat. Notice each type of thermostat has a specific directional orientation when installed. The Reset button is on top and the spade lugs point to the center. Knowing this helps verify you are getting the correct thermostat at the store.

According to this Surburban manual AC is black and 12 VDC is red.

Click on BB_TX's link to the Suburban Manual, page down to Page 13 (of 26). The T-Stat and Hi-Limit switch are all part of the same assembly. There is one for 12V and a separate one for 120V.
