Insulation Question

I would like everyone's opinion please. I don't have the money to purchase skirting for the winter So I was thinking of using some 1 1/4 inch foam insulation that I have and can get more of cheep. What are your thoughts of me cutting and fitting it just out side the Frame. The under side of the slides would still be exposed, but the Belly would be insulated from front to back.
I am thinking of using treated 2x4's at the outside bottom to hold them up like an L shape. Then use white Duct tape for the seams. Do you think this will work? and better yet will it help?

I can't see why it would hurt. you are stopping a lot of wind and draft from coming underneath the unit. maybe you can temporarily tape or glue pieces to the slide floors to help them too. that would be my opinion

Cheep is not as good as free. Yes it will help. Yes it will work. The only problem I see is 1\4 inch foam isn't very strong and you might need to add some light vertical braces say 1X2s.

It's one and a quarter inch styrene. Like Joe said, As long as it stops the wind it'll help. what if you cut some pcs. and pushed them up against the floor of the slide room. Make some T braces and wedge them against the foam and the ground. I saw a unit in Jackson Wy have the whole slide wrapped in foam.

I think 11/2 foam would work well. Just don't forget to glue &brace it.

George are you doing this at home up in Washington or are you taking the unit South? The 1 1/4" foam will help a lot! If you can wedge it between the ground and the frame would work great IMHO and the 2X4s would help to keep it on the ground better. If you could anchor the 2X4s somehow by spiking it to the ground would help also. The 2X4s could be set up either on the inside or outside but if on the outside they could be anchored without having to crawl under the belly to secure them to the ground. The duct tape or gorilla tape on the seams would work well or if you want to put a little more money the eternabond tape would work also. Let us know what you come up with and post some photos if possible!

George, we lived in ours for 2 winters and the problem is not the belly but the bottom of the slides. That is where you need to insulate to keep the unit warmer.

I would do what you plan and wrap the slides in it also. I've seen some folks tape insulation like that all around the slides and they said it made a big difference.

jsmitfl thanks I was thinking of putting some under the slides but had not thought about T braces, I think that would work.
Rondo yes we are in Washington, But we are sitting on a concrete pad so spiking them down is not an option. I will take pictures and let everyone know how it turns out.

use like tyvek tape on the seams ( or the red stuff)the tape that is used when they wrap a building and tape the seams it will last longer than duct tape

I also saw a rig wrapped in sheet foam, the slides were completely wrapped. big piece on top of slides extending out the thickness of the side sheets of foam and gorilla taped foam to foam. The bottom piece of foam was cut to just fit the bottom of the slide and the side pieces were taped over the bottom. He wrapped all the slides (tops, ends and bottoms) this way and cut out for end windows but used shrink wrap on the inside of windows. It saved him a lot on heating that winter but took a few days to complete and several rolls of gorilla tape.. This may be a bit more then you want to do but there are lots of ways to winterize..
We are just gonna go to Vegas
