Lube plate or just grease'r down?

When we picked up our new to us 08 Monty, we were encouraged to buy the teflon lube plate so's to keep from getting grease all over ourselves. Did we make the right decision or should we pull it off and grease up the hitch plate? Thanks for the advise.

You made the right decision, no mess anyway. Would not be without one.

Just a little trick to remember: if the plate gets loose and falls off the king pin, lay it down and take a hammer and whack on the "teeth" around the center opening. It will tighten up and stay on.

Agree with above, teflon plate only way to go...as Stiles says whack those inside teeth to expand them so it stays put on the king pin when unhitched.

Ditto what everyone else said, but don't forget you still have to grease the Jaws and lube the rest of the moving parts.

I use a silicone spray as well as the teflon plate- The spray on the point of first contact to keep the paint from scratching- JHMO- Don

Even though I see why people use the Teflon plates, I took mine off and chucked it. The reason - it's too thick and takes up too much vertical room on the hitch plate. I felt the vertical room was more valuable in telling when the hitch cleared the pinbox in order to pull out from under the rig. I just give the hitch plate a shot of WD-40 before each trip and make sure the jaws are greased up. If the Teflon plates were thinner like maybe a 1/64th inch or so, then I would use one.
