microwave won't pop popcorn
we have a new montana 3465 and are having problems with our sylvania convection microwave it works great for heating but will not fully pop a bag of popcorn, is there a secret to getting it to work, lately when we try it completely shuts down and does not reset itself for about 5 minutes. Any help would be greately appreciated.

sounds like you may need to replace the oven it's shuting down indicatetes a over heating problem or a voltage overload what ever it is it isn't right if it's a new unit I'd ask for a replacement just my opinion hope you find some resolve

Make sure you have good voltage to the rig. If connections are not clean or power source is weak, the microwave won't function properly.

Brian:
We've got a Sylvania microwave in our new 2955 and we're having the same problem.
Our voltage level is normal and the unit works fine for other things
it just won't pop a full bag of popcorn........and we've tried a bunch of bags and methods. Cook longer, cook twice.
It burns the kernels or leaves 1/3 of them unpopped!!!
We figured we were doing something wrong.

I would go to COSTCO and get that Inverter Panasonic Microwave, that is if you have a oven under the stove, if not forget and send it to the manufacture for repair.

We have the same problem with ours. It even runs when it is turned off. My wife got paranoid about it and (since our dealer-Suncoast RV in Pinellas Park, Fla went out of business) now I just turn it on and off at the relay switch. Hopefully we can get it replaced or fixed when we get to the Rally.

We recently purchased a round 1 inch thick plastic bacon plate which gets the bag off the hot metal plate which does the burning, seems to work great so far. brian and joanne

Based upon your last post, I think you have discovered the problem. The metal plate is to be used for the convection and half-time functions. We remove ours (Apollo, but same principle) and use the rotating glass plate when microwaving. Just a thought if the others are doing the same.

We also take the metal plate out when microwaving. Only use it for convection and 1/2 time oven.

Even if you have the rotating glass turntable, put an inverted, microwave safe, plate in with the popcorn bag on top of the plate. It helped me in a microwave that didn't have a lot of power.
Don't forget that when the popping gets down to about 3 second interval it is time to take it out, done or not.

Under the chair cushions is a great place to store metal plate when you remove it.

As you see by our first response the Microwave was bad. We had it replaced and tried popcorn again. DW pressed the popcorn button and it popped a half a bag of popcorn. I guess we will have to epxperiment with it some more to get it figured out. Time will tell on how long we have this microwave. So far, Sylvania has not impressed me at all. Have a Good Day

I found this topic at the right time. This is why I like the MOC forum. We have a new 3000Rk with Sylvania microwave. I tried to pop popcorn and it didn't work. I appreciate the suggestions and will try a bacon plate or browning plate (the instructions recomment that) and see if it works. Who can live without popcorn?
Tonight I grilled hamburgers and that work great in the Sylvania.

We had the same problem and when we went to LazyDays they replaced the microwave and I still had the same problem. So I called Sylvania and asked them what was wrong with the popcorn setting. They said in the fine print of the instruction booklet it tells you that you must put a china plate on the turntable and then put the popcorn on the plate. Did it and now have no problems. Isn't that just the oddest thing! I wonder what they did with that perfectly good microwave/convection they replaced!! Good luck and good eating!!

We did read the instructions and it directs the user to place an inverted porcelain plate above the browning plate. Agrees that if it is a required paired of equipment it should be supplied but the design is weak in that it requires a plate to begin with.

See my post above. Even with expensive house microwaves, all of my manuals have said to place an inverted plate to help in the heat distribution to pop the pop-corn.
