Front Jacks Problem

We have an issue with our front jacks, they quit working. This was only our 4th time out. While inspecting to figure how to do it manually I noticed there was a screw on the bar directly beneath the motor, that I assumed was to hold the bar in place. Anyway the screw was sticking up quit a ways and was actually hitting the motor, it has almost wore a hole in the motor housing. We ended up raising the jacks by hand. Took it to the dealer today, they are going to look at it. The fuse was blown, but I am thinking that was caused by the extra tension put on the motor by the screw hitting it every time it went around. Just wondering if anybody else has experienced anything like this. I sure hope we get the bugs worked out soon, every trip its something else!

The fuses are a common problem (been there, done that). Do not reverse the motors without pausing (done that - fuse blows). Do not over-retract jacks (done that - fuse blows). Do not try to lift truck with jacks (haven't done that but - fuse blows). Don't know about the screw though, I do know that I now have a pack of 5 extra 30 amp blade fuses in the Monty in case I repeat the mistakes that I previously made.

Either the bolt is the wrong one (to long) or the motor is not installed properly. I do not recall anyone on the forum reporting that particular problem. I would have the dealer take a hard look at that bolt. Perhaps compare it with another one on a Montana..If it is the incorrect bolt..hummmmm..

Your logic is sound. When motors are impeded, they tend to pop fuses. the wear on you housing should not be. Sure sounds like an installation error.

I will definitely carry extra fuses from now on. The dealer is supposed to call me tomorrow when he finds out more about the bolt, hopefully everything will work out. We were really excited to get our new Monty, but we have had several issues with it, the recliners falling apart was the other big thing and are starting to wonder if the Montana was the right way to go. We love it when we have it, but I think it has been at the dealer more than we have had it. The dealer has not been very good to work with, so we went the service manager and what we have been trying to get fixed since March was fixed the next day. Hopefully I won't have as much trouble this time around!

By the way, where is the fuse for the jacks? I tried to find it to see if that was the problem but couldn't find it. It is a 2007 3000RK.

The fuse for my Mountaineer is inside the black wire loom. It is an inline fuse. Newer trailers may have blade fuses and I don't know where they hide them.

It won't make you feel any better but the chances are great that you would have similar issues with any brand camper. Quality workmanship and quality control is low in the Rv industry. The good news is that Keystone does stand behind the product so use the camper as much as you can during the first year of bumper to bumper warranty and get those workmanship issues resolved.

Fuse is an inline blade fuse (30A on our 3400) located in the battery compartment on the right side. Someone posted pictures previously on another thread.

Ahhhh, the bolt.
It is a cap screw with a locking nut on it, I suggest a spare. No room for a lock washer, and I would not change the type of bolt used, as the shear factor comes into play.
Get-er-done.......

I went out and checked "the bolt" to see if I could determine how long it was....The cap screw was VERY loose. That is 15 months and a lot of use later....Suggest folks check the bolt..and all other bolts for tightness...My motor bolts were aslo loose.

The picture of the bolt was exact, I didn't ever see the nut though. The dealer called today, they said the bolt had nothing to do with the problem, but they supposedly got it fixed. I still think the bolt had something to do with it. The service from my dealer has sure improved since I talked with the manager. Anxious to get it back and use it some more, still have 6 months left on the warranty! Thanks for all the help....

Ours is in the shop getting somethings fixed one is the the front landing gear as the bolt broke on ours after 6 trips. Also when they put the w/d in the broke a fitting on the back and it has to come out of the States. We may get to use the w/d after about 6 months at this rate.

On my 2006 Mountaineer the 30amp fuse is a small "modular" fuse mounted to the back wall to the right of the battery in the front compartment. It blew on me over the weekend when it was over 100 here in Texas :-(

Borrow some nail polish from the missus and paint the end of the threads...or buy some locktight thread sealer.
