Propane detector "chirp"

This just started a couple of days ago. Every now and then our propane detector will give one "chirp." Sometimes it will repeat after a few seconds or minutes. Sometimes we get a reprieve for an hour or more. Starts in the evening and goes until early morning. They are supposed to be good for 5 years. I checked the date and its only 20 months old. I tried blowing it out with a blow dryer on cool and made sure nothing is around it to prevent any airflow. I'm baffled and more than a little annoyed. Can't find anything online about this. It's hard wired into 12 volt. No batteries to change. Any suggestions?

Ours failed at maybe 30 months. Just replace it. Not worth the hassle of trying to act on any warranty, just picked up a new one at CW, and crimped the splices to the new one. No more lost sleep.

We also had to replace ours when less than three years old. Another product purchased from the low bidder.

Ours did that also, weird part was it would go off in the middle of the night every time we would use the couch pullout. Our son would come out and stay the night and it would go off. I did make sure I harassed him about it :-)

Had ours go off after an hr or so of getting power. Reset breaker at pedestal often through the first night... lesson learned: find and turn off breaker to device. I cut mine off and it was replaced via warranty. That took a good 4 to 6 weeks. Reinstalled it two weeks ago.

You might want to double check the 12 volt house batteries for gassing .

Also have you just bought a new rug? We bought a new rug several years ago that would set off the propane detector.

If you have a waste basket close and use those scented kitchen bags will also set it off!

Every time my 01 unit chirps like this it is because of low voltage on the 12v side. I would be willing to bet that your 12V house battery is junk.

Try this. Unplug your 120V power. Turn on the 12V living room inside lights. Try to operate the slide outs. I bet the lights will dim severely (they will dim some with a good 12v battery) The slide out motor will stop before the slides move less than 12 inches then your battery is junk.

IF you are plugged in to an outlet the charge converter is providing makeup power so that is why you have to unplug for this test.

At most I get maybe 4 yrs out of a battery, with the old style charge converter. your mileage may vary.

Chris
