All of the problems we have had with the surround sound on our 2012 - 3402 have been the result of cable problems. You will have a minimum of two cables, one HDMI and Digital Audio cable. The Digital Audio should be the one sending the sound from the TV to the surround receiver.

I would check these cable, they are hanging at the back of the TV and sometimes the strain affects the connection.

In my 3800, we have a samsung television and a samsung home theater system. The connection between the two units is the hdmi cable and a fiber optic cable. Are either of these loose? If you put a cd music disc in the player and play it, do you get sound out of the speakers connected to the home theater system? Function switch changed to dvd/cd on the front display of the home theater system. No sound out when playing a cd says that the system has gone south. John

we've had the same issue with our 2014 3402RL. I keep switching between TV speakers and 5.1. That sometimes fixes it.

I have a Sony television and surround sound system. The front speaker usually work, but the rear speakers seldom work. I've had this rig a little over one year. I guess I need to get the book out and read

Well....fixed the problem. Put in a CD and it worked with surround sound and when I pulled CD and went back to TV it was working.....Maybe system suffers from momentary forgetfulness like I do......

The rear speakers only work if the program (or movie) is being broadcast in 5.1 surround sound format.

OK. This may be the problem. We have a Sony TV and AV. Our surround sound does not work unless you unplug and plug back in the speaker wires each and every time the AV loses power. Keystone, at first, believed that it was the AV and replaced it. Still the same problem. Then, Keystone thought that the LED ceiling lights were causing interference and replace all of my ceiling lights. Worked for a guy in FL but not me. Keystone is still trying to figure it out. To test yours with this problem:
1. Turn your unit on.
2. Unplug and plug back in one speaker, then the other.
3. Test surround sound....mine will work.
4. Turn off unit.
5. Unplug RV.
6. Plug RV back in.
7. Turn unit on (Keystone thought that when you opened the door to enter the RV the LED lights come on and interfere with the speakers)
8. Surround sound speakers will not work. Go to step 1 and start over to get them to work.

Good luck

I am not very tech savy when it comes to TV's and electronics. I generally have one of my grown sons hook stuff up for me when I buy something new and they are around. I have the same system as CaptJoe and what I have noticed is that when we play movies we generally get surround sound from all speakers but can seldom get it with just the TV. Actually I got tired of messing with it and we were just playing the TV through the TV speakers. I just spent about 30 minutes trying to get it to work right and I am starting to think mine is defective too.

I end up getting so frustrated I turn it off and read a book. We have the Samsung TV and theater system. Sometimes the surround works, sometimes it doesn't. I'll have to try the unplug and plug back in trick. Thanks Captain Joe.

I have a new 2014 3402 and have same similar problem. Surround sound works well with CD. When watching TV just goes out and have to change channels or turn off , then works. Very frustrating.
Took it to dealer end of April, they couldn't duplicate of course.

$70-100+000 for these units and basic things don't work???
When will we ever learn??
I have had ZERO problems with my car and truck sound systems and paid considerably less for them.
Perhaps we need to understand that mediocrity seems to be the accepted norm in the RV industry.

This sound drop out on 5.1 systems is a universal problem. I have it at home between my DirecTV receiver and my Denon A/V receiver. My AV equipment in my house is probably worth more than my Montana so I'm not surprised that the cheap Sony BD player they picked has issues.

Mine is also finicky. Occasionally, it just goes off. Our BluRay/audio system and cable are both HDMI. The first time it did it, I switched those cables around and it started working. The next time I tried switching between surround sound and tv speakers and eventually just gave up and left it on tv speakers. The next time we turned the tv on I switched it back and it worked. Now, I usually just switch it to tv speakers if it goes off 'cuz I hate messing with it. We also have the Sony tv and BluRay. I hate others are having the same problem, but am glad it's not that I am audio impaired.

I've been thinking about exchanging the Samsung with a Bose home theater system. Anyone else replace theirs?

We just look at the system like the holding tank gauges...useless. We are happy it is a low cost system as if it was a expensive system and did not work we would be very unhappy.
