Go to Home Depot, buy an electronic stud finder

They are aluminum so any stud finder that works on metal studs will find them.

They are steel and if you look at your roof in early morning while it is still wet, they are well defined.

Through the cabinet over the island. The feed end of the track buts up against the cabinet and the wires are hidden inside the cabinet. My model has a trough like space running up the wall behind the cabinet and there is 12v and 110v access. I picked the 110v off an existing kitchen outlet. Pictures later if you are interested. On way to storage area , leaving for a trip to the Georgia mountains.

Start from the inside and you can see the 4ft seams. Then you will be able to see the brads shot into the rafters from there. Once you have figured out where you want it square out the spot and cut the ceiling out. Then in each corner drill thru the roof. Go up and square it out leaving 1 inch excess so you don't hit the rafter. Double check everything, adjust saw blade so you just cut wood. Cut where your drill holes are. Now you can frame it in if you want and get your wire ran.
I am thinking you are talking about a Fantastic fan. if not Sorry.
