Kitchen Grey water.

HI every one,
I for the life of me can't understand why anyone in there right mind would put the Kitchen grey tank drain valve in such a ****ty place,
Are they to cheap to extend the drain handle to the rest of the control vale compartment I hate like hell kneeling down to open the valve when the dump station is all wet from the previous dumper.
Come on Keystone put a longer cable on this valve and move it to where the rest of the Controls are.

Going to watch this thread! We just did our PDI and I was wondering about the same thing. Why on earth is that over there when EVERYTHING else is behind that door? We won't do a shake down for a few weeks so I can't answer my own question.

I keep saying, it's too bad Keystone don't make their engineers live in a unit they design for at least two weeks. If they did, I'm sure a LOT of things would be better and different.

we installed an electric valve inline....put the control in the command center....works like a charm...talk to Ozz...he can furnish everything you need for the job...no more crawling under the slides, etc for me...was worth the cost for sure...

Stan, you are a wise man indeed.
Do you have pictures you can post for folks that want to do this job? You might also let them know about the handle and what you had to do with it.
I went to an auto parts store and sent Stan some electrical splice connectors as well.

For one thing, the cable is located there because a much longer cable would be needed to reach the convenience center. Then the cable would have several bends in it making it more difficult to pull. Then we would have threads about the difficulty of pulling the handle. Yes, an electric valve would be more convenient but Keystone needs to keep costs down to remain competitive. That's why we do mods and have guys like Ozz where we can get parts and a wealth of expertise on the forum on ways to improve rigs.

Actually the location isn't much worse and in some cases better than where drains are located on some TT's. The problem really becomes fun when your parked in a full hookup spot. Keystone always seems to have a slide over those wheels.

Yes, on my 3750 it is a head knocker. I try it remember to hook up drain and pull galley valve before I put the slides out

a question for you full timers. Why can't the slide valve for the galley tank be put at the end of the 1-1/2 line,closer to the dump valves? I understand the line would be always full when in use but you are not traveling when it is full. would the drain line not hold up?? just a question

I got tired of crawling under our 3150 to get to the galley valve. So not wanting to invest in an electric valve. I went to ACE Hardware and bought a sprinkler system key. They come in a couple of lengths. I got the long one, about 3' long. It has a fork on the end opposite the handle. I put the forked end in the vise and bent it 90 degrees from straight.
I marked the skirt of the Monty with a piece of red tape about an inch long to make locating the valve easier. The forked end of the key slips over the Tee-Handle of the valve and I can pull the valve out without crawling under the Monty. You can use the key to also push the valve back in.
The key also works with the slide out.

All Right y I like the idea of the electric valve I will be doing some thing like that. But talking about cable being to long I have seen cables that are fifteen feet long and they work fine as long as you anchor them along there path. Used to have a boat and the control cables for that were more than fifteen feet long s so that is not the problem, cost by Keystone is the problem and we pay for our units anyway make them work.

If you are staying put for awhile, just leave that galley valve open and you won't have to reach back under there all the time.

Did you say "right mind"?? Because they have always done it that way, of course!.

I consider myself very fortunate as on our Outback trailer there were two sewer connections-one for the Black water and 1 for gray water and the galley. They were far enough away from each other that you had to dump one and then either add another chuck of hose and couple it together or pull forward and dump the black tank.....
