Wood Slide Header

The wood header over our large slide has come loose (with the big Montana logo). How is it attached. I don't see any nails or brads. Is it glued? I know that others have probably had the same issue. Thanks in advance.

We had one of our side moldings come loose and I just used some construction adhesive and bar clamps to hold everything in place while it set. It is now better than new and it won't come loose again.

I had mine replaced under warranty and helped the tech do the job. It is, in fact, brad nailed to the slide. CAREFUL, SLOW prying removes it. It's reinstalled by using an air gun nailer (that wood is HARD!)Colored wood putty is used to fill over the nail heads.

Ron,
They use Brads as stated. I do not suggest Glue because it has to come off if any maintenance requires removal of that slide.

Had the one over the kitchen slide come down. Removed the existing brads and used a compressed air brad nailer to reinstall.

I didn't have an air nailer, so I pre-drill the molding slightly smaller than the finishing brad & installed the molding...............

Roy,
An excellent alternative way to reinstall the trim piece!

Thanks, everyone. I will break out the brad gun, have Terrie hold it in place and give it a couple of shots. I take it the brads go right into the bottom face.

Yesterday I saw my wood front molding on dining room slide was getting very loose. I could flex it and saw they used brad nails originally. Without removing them I added new brads and then used a punch to finish the job cleanly, and covered the heads with putty wax. Very easily done and end result was tight and good as new! Did not use glue.

Had a cabinet door come open in transit and upon opening the den, caught the den molding and yanked it off. If it would have been glued, I'm sure it would have broken. Shot it with brads and all is fine. Don't use glue.

We used wood screws - one each centered between each end and the logo. We drilled the hole such that we could put an oak plug into it. We stained it and placed it in the hole with no glue so that it could be removed if necessary. We also did the sides at the top and bottom. Our rig was built just after the market crash when many of Keystone's employees were told to keep up the quality but that they would be let go at the end of the week when our rig was completed...

What size screw? If using a brad, what length? I want to get this fixed Saturday. Thanks.

Heading to Home Depot. My brad nailer came with 1 1/4" brads and I've never used it. Need an air hose end to connect to compressor. Will be fixed today.

Have had the top header facia off on our Super Slide three times under warranty. The dealer needed to get to the 1" thick x 6" wide support beam to get the top of the slide roof level. The third time the 1" thick fabricated beam was replaced by a 3/4" x 6" hardwood board and 1/4" x 6" hardwood plywood to give the beam enough strength to hold the roof level. Each time the header facia was pried off and nailed back on with air nail guns. At the end of the third time the facia board was full of so many holes that I asked for and received new replacement facia boards.

I too would strongly recommend that glue be not used on any of there facia boards. Over time one or more will come off due to an accident or need to be taken off for repairs. Glue would be a complete PITA.

Job done, used 1 1/4" brads. As most jobs, it was much easier to do than what I made it out to be. Had the brad nailer for years (came with compressor) but never had a need to use it.

Hope we never have to remove the side piece I reattached using construction adheisive......at least I know I am not going to find it coming loose again If the brads did the job they were suppose to, it wouldn't have come loose in the first place.
