Electrical hookup question

I have a 3380 set up for 50amp. The park I am in only has 30 amp like most of the parks around where I am. I was told by a Dometic rep that this was the reason that my halftime was not working. It would cause the panel to burn out after a period of time. I noticed that whenever I tried using the thing I had to turn everything else off but it reached a point that even that did not help. I am wondering if the hookup to the 30 amp will damage anything else in the 5th wheel. Is there something else I should be doing?

We have always used a 30 amp service where we park. The problem is the amout of power you need to run all the equipment. We have to do the same thing as you, to run the halftime we need to shut off the air cond.,just run the fan and any high draw items, coffee pots, electric griddle, etc: We always use a plug in volt meter to monitor park voltage, you would be surprised at times that voltage drops to 100-105 volts during certain times of day. I understand that amp draw is the problem, but without proper voltage you also do not have enough amps to draw on from the power system.

Your Dometic rep misinformed you. You can operate on 30 or 50 amps depending on how many appliances you operate at the same time. Just be sure you monitor the incoming voltage. As racerjoe said, "you would be surprised at times that voltage drops to 100-105 volts during certain times of day. I understand that amp draw is the problem, but without proper voltage you also do not have enough amps to draw on from the power system." That's why you'll see some posts in favor of an autoformer.

There was a failure to communicate between yourself and the Dometic Rep. You have 30 amp you can use. Example... The A/C will draw @ 12 amps, the toaster will draw @ 9/10 amps, Coffee maker @ 7amps. Hot water tank @10 amps. You need to manage your amp draw as we all do 50 or 30 amps. The rep was correct he just did not communicate clearly what he meant.

Welcome to the Forum!

If you have the Apollo 1/2 time oven, Dometic was out of line making any comment. If you have the Dometic 1/2 time in a Big Sky, OK.

I was told by Lynn (Apollo Rep) that power surge and overloading a 30A park service causing voltage fluctuations was the leading cause of failure of the Appolo 1/2 time oven electronics. That advice plus $1.25 or an Apollo 1/2 time oven will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks.

Lynn told me exactly the same thing. I replied that it was also the leading cause of failure of any kind of electronic device. She sent me a new Apollo.
