Lug Nuts

I stored my 2006 3400 Montie at the beach last winter and have rust pits on all of the lug nuts. I have gone to tire, truck and RV stores and they can't tell me where to buy the lug nuts. Has anyone replaced their lugnuts, if so please advise. Thanks!

Pat, many of us have the same problem. I am wondering if the Black plastic nut covers would solve the problem. I had those on my Keystone Sprinter. Not as nice, but may be an affordable fix.

I bought the center hubcaps from CW and covered all of the lugs that way.
I removed the plastic lug covers so I could torque the wheels when needed.

I spent most of a day removing, cleaning, chrome polishing my lug nuts. They looked good as new when I got done, but within a year, they were all rusty again. Finally got fed up with how they spoiled the appearance of the rig, and bought a set of McGard lug nuts. You will need to check the size, but mine were 1/2 x 20 conical seat. They are available on-line from Summit Racing for about $32 for a set of eight. Expensive, but they are guaranteed not to rust.

Mine came looking bad,rust and nicks,the dealer had the factory send up new ones.I installed them,they look good now,but the chrome looks like poor quility,Summit Racing looks like the way to go.

That link will take you to the Summit Racing site, which is where I bought mine. From there, there is a link to the McGard site: http://www.mcgard.com/search/default...vID=1&NavID=11 where you can select the correct nut. I actually sent a close-up photograph of the nut to McGard to make sure I got the right nut because there are hundreds of variations. For our '05 3670RL, the correct nut turned out to be part # 64805. This is a 1/2-20, 7/8 hex Conical seat, these came in a pack of 8. If you could get together with a couple of friends with the same lug nuts, you could save a bit by buying a bulk pack of 100. The McGard site also explains why their nuts are better than cheaper ones. Whatever you do, please do confirm the size that is on your rig, because they are not all the same.

Les Schwab Tires handles lug nuts and will get you whatever you need. Only problem: they're located primarily in the west.

My lug nuts were also rusty,I demanded new ones thats been a month ago and the dealer hasn't called that they are in yet.Does anyone know what size they are I kept my new torque wrench, but need to buy a socket most likely a deep socket and what lbs are they to be torqued at? Randye

My 07 nuts are 15/16". Took 3 trips to get the right size as my brain kept going towards the other standards sizes by the time I got to the parts store.

Ours are getting rusty already, too. I guess I will have to check into the aftermarket replacements.

I'm in the same boat as the rest of you, I've actually taken mine off, used steel wool to take off the pitting & rust, sprayed a protective coating on and they still rusted back within 2 months! Brad...are all 3400RL 9/16 thread size? Just got off the phone with Keystone and their lug nut vendor would left me more confused than I was prior to the calls. My unit is an 05 model, any help out there, Thanks

I don't know. They have changed axles so many times, it may affect the thread size as well. I'm not sure what thread size mine are. I just know that behind all that rust, they are large nuts that require a 15/16" socket.

On my '05 3670 they were stamped 1/2 - 20, and they took a 7/8 socket. Be careful though, there is no easy answer. Take one off if necessary, and take to the vendor. As I said previously, I ordered mine after sending a digital photo of one of my lug nuts (sitting on a metal rule) to McGard. They were able to advise me as to the correct kit to order. There is also the cone seating angle to consider. Lug nuts are not just cosmetic, make sure you get the right one for the application.

Well I finally went the McGard way as I went ahead and replaced all 32 lug nuts. Mine, like OntMont, were stamped 1/2 - 20 and took a 7/8 socket, called Summit Racing and they hooked me up. Even got a "Free" hat from them Rig looks alot better without the rusty lugs.
