We don't have a separate crank for the spare either. I'm wondering if Dave is confused (now why would I say that LOL). We have a crank for the slides just in case the automatic system doesn't work. We've never used it, not on the Monty or our other 2 5ers, but we always carry it with us. Let's see maybe 2 lbs. If we don't take it, we could take something else that weighs 2 lbs but then Murphy's law would kick in and we would need it!
Happy trails.....................

Ok, you guys got me questioning myself so I went out and got the crank that fits my rear stabilizers and just so happens it fits the spare tire up and down thingy. The other crank will only fit the front legs in case the electric thingy don't work on them. Man I love this technical stuff.
I have never tried turning off the Battery to see if the TV battery runs the lights in Monty. I am not even sure if the TV charges the Battery in Monty. Guess I am kinda dumb about these things.

There are 2 cranks! 1 works the stabilizers and the other works your spare tire and your front legs if the motor fails!

Rich...you did not get short cranked.

The same handle that cranks down the jacks cranks down the spare. What is confusing is that the piece on the jack that the handle fits on is a solid male piece (no comments!). The piece on the spare that the handle fits on is hollow on the inside (making it look like a female connection), making me assume the handle went on the inside, when in fact, it goes on the outside of both pieces. I know, clear as mud.

I was under the impression my thoughtful Chevy dealer had taken care of my 'dummy' fuse...he hadn't, so I pulled the 40 amp fuse that came taped to the GM issued brake controller wiring and used it. Why do you suppose GM just did not put the fuse in rather than taping it to the wire???

Re Montana and the spare tire crank and GM with the dummy fuse..They are just trying to see how alert the consumer is.

Back to the RV battery being disconnected. I am pretty sure if you are disconnecting the RV battery at the actual disconnect switch, then the tow vehicle should be charging the battery, but none of the lights etc inside will work, because the power has been interupted.

This would explain the tail lights etc working but not the interior etc.

Even hooked to the TV the master disconnect switch on the RV has to be in the "ON" position to allow the 12V interior lights etc. work off of the truck.

Right?

There seems to be a lot of confusion on this topic and I'm just as confused. I know that if the TV is set up to charge the battery it will also allow you to run the slides and landing gear as well as power the outside lights. But I never tried to see if it would also run inside lights with the trailer battery disconnected. My impression is the same as JennyKraig, that the wiring is not set up that way. If anyone experiments with this, please post back. Also, my understanding is in order to charge the battery and run the slides and landing gear when the coach battery is dead requires the TV engine to be running. I never tried running the gear and slides with just the key turned on but have done it with engine running.

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!
