How Do My Tires LooK See Pictures

I have just had my Sailun tires about a year and during that time I put a lot of miles on them going out west. They look like the outer tire is wearing out, but one part of me says that is just the way the outter trailer wheel is designed. So
I thought I would ask the experienced people in montana land what they think.

Here are some pictures:

Thank you in advance

Larry

I am guessing those are Sailuns as they look a lot like mine. That is normal wear in my experience. The outer edge wears down due to turning but there is significant rubber there to accommodate it. My last set had 60,000+ miles at 5 years when they were replaced and looked the same as yours. My current 2.5 year old Sailuns have around 20K miles on them and are wearing in a similar way.

Carl, thank you for the them. I was worried about him. It always feels better when somebody else with the same Tire and has the same wear pattern. I’ve only had the tires for a year, but I did take over the Linky three month trip out west from Baltimore to the national park and back.

My tires looked just like that; it bothered me the way the shoulders were wearing.

I've done quite a bit of research and that seems to be normal wear. The shoulders look like that due to the nature of tandem axles scrubbing during turns. Best to limit sharp turns (especially on pavement) as much as possible. Your tires and spring hangers will thank you.

Your tires look fine. I replaced a set earlier this year that looked a lot like that, but after 7 years & 50k miles it was time.

What Carl said.
The outside edges wear hard because of sharp turns, especially when backing into a 90⁰ site.
Have a look at your wheels as you back in. It will freak you out how much they flex.

I don’t have Sailun tires but I’ve seen many pictures here on MOC that look remarkably like yours.

no 3rd a/c..... Mini split

My tires (First and second set) Look just like that. I don`t worry about them, get down to cord or age out, replace them as a set.

Out of curiosity, do you know the tire temperature as you travel down the highway?
I agree with the other responses but am curious about temperatures.
Do you also know the loaded weight of your trailer?

Thank you for the help, my trailer weight is 17,280 and my sticker says I should be 16,600 but we have upgraded to 8000 IS suspension which should make a difference in the weight. We won’t be moving for another couple weeks I can give you a temps then. But the tire that bothers me the most is the one below. The circled area does not look right.

That looks like wear from turning. If it was an alignment issue it would be positive camber meaning the axles would have too much bend in them.

That tire looks a bit strange. Since you upgraded to the 8000 lb suspension, did you also upgrade to H rated tires or did you stick with G rated tires. G rated tires are close to their limit with a 14,000 lb load. Since my trailer weighs almost 16,800 but my hitch weight is 2800 the tires are seeing 14,000. I subscribe to the thought that I won't load the tires more than 85% of their max rating, which means the tires will top out at 3740 each or 14,960 for the four tires. That's why I upgraded to H rated tires.
When I had the tires replaced the tech and facility owner told me to run 100-110 psi hot and that the tires will be 90 psi cold. I now run 90 psi cold and my pressure will increase to about 105 psi after reaching temperature while traveling. My temperatures are usually 110 - 135 degrees while traveling depending upon the ambient temperature. The previous tires were G rated but typically ran 150 - 170 degrees when the outside temperature was 85 degrees. I double checked the tire temperature with an IR gun to verify my sensors were correct.
I don't remember what pressure you are running but I'm thinking your cold pressure is too high and if you are still running G rated tires you might want to jump to H rated tires. My Montana is a 3901RK and I see that the new 3901RK comes standard with H rated tires.

I thought mine were prematurely wearing as well but if you look at the pics of a brand new Sailun trailer tire you will see that the outer edge of the tire has a bald looking tread pattern. Like the outer edges are worn out, but that is actually how the tire is designed. Not saying you don’t have a wear issue but the design of the tire can be deceiving.

Curious,
I saw some guys backing a big offshore racing boat into a slip down in Florida and one of the guys was pouring buckets of water under the tires as the tires twisted on the pavement. Has anyone thought of, or tried it, pouring water under the tires when backing into 90 degree turn or swinging around in a cul-de-sac?

I have exactly the same type of wear on 2 of mine. I'm concerned because of the uneven wavy pattern that makes me think there is a defect in the belts that is showing up as the miles accumulate on the tires. These wavy areas are on both inside and outside edges with heavier wear on the inside (also easier to get a good photo). The two tires in question are on different sides of the RV and on different axles. They have about 22,500 miles on them.

I'm not even close on weight and have never run the tires below 110psi.

Tredit replaced two of my OE tires under their warranty because they were out of round. We discovered that because of uneven wear on the outside edges - 0 tread markings at 0 degrees, full tread markings at 180 degrees, tire dealer wasn't able to balance them, they literally wobbled up and down on the balancer. The two tires that are showing this wear are also OE tires with date codes 3721 & 4221 made in China. The replacements Tredit sent were made in Vietnam The newer tires are also showing edge wear but not the wavy pattern.
