It is time.......
Check the water in your battery...batteries...
I know some have batteries that are sealed, some have the gizmo that waters them automatically, but us 'Old school' folks that have to get the inspection mirror, flashlight and milk crate to sit on, to check the water, need to do it. I remember a few years ago when the campground power went out, I went around to the check neighbors units, because they had no 12 volts, their batteries were bone dry.
Check that spare tire for the proper air pressure while you are at it.
That is all...

Been putting this chore off and I guess you just urged me to get er done. Also have to check wheel bearings, and brakes, squirt some lube on the pistons for the slides as we have a lot of salt air here and it raises heck on bare metal. Where you at now Ozz? Still at Lake Havaseu?

Hi Dave, Yes, we are still here in Havasu. We planned on staying 3 days, the camp and folks were so nice, we extended until Jan 1. The weather cools a little by then, so we will head for Palm Springs...area. I guess. Plans are fluid.
Thanks for mentioning the pistons, I will do that also, and the slides rubber seal. Forgot about that.
We loved Padre Island, but I am upset that the salt air attacked my truck and the Monte.
Take care bud.

Yes, water in the one battery the Monty has, the thing ran out of power after two days of mostly setting. To bad I couldn't roll-it-off like we use to do with the C Farmall and the Allis Chalmers D14 back in the 50s and 60s. Thanks for the reminder.

I went to NAPA and bought one of those little containers that gas stations used to use to fill batteries. Now I just pull the top, stick the nozzle in the hole, push down and move on to the next hole. No need for crates to sit on and mirrors (bad back and poor eyes anyway), just have to make sure the water in the filler container doesn't freeze.

Recumbent,
You mentioning that old Farmall C was a blast from the past!! My 8, 9 and 10 year old butt, was planted in the seats of a C, H, M and 400 for many many hours back in those days!!
I worked for 2 of my dairy farmer uncles back then in the spring, summer, and fall. Both of these uncles have since passed but, we used these big red machines to plow, plant, haul manure, bale hay, harvest wheat, bale straw, chop silage, harvest corn and disk corn stalks. The C and H did alot of the utility work and the M (Super) did the heavier field work and then, along came the 400 with a 3-12 bottom plow! Boy, that rig took a bunch of time out of the field work in the spring and fall!!
Thanks for the great memories that just came back to me!

Thanks for the reminder, Ozz. I do have one of those automatic water adding devices for my batteries. I am planning on removing it. I use it for automatic refill and it doesn't seem to work right for all cells. I am finding that I am removing the caps and manually topping off anyway. It seems quicker to pop the caps and refill with a tool and forget this slow refill method.
I check the batteries every other month and they need lots of water even with the Battery minder (they are disconnected with a blade connector when the rig is stored on my driveway. One battery went dead a few months ago and I've got one left. When it dies I'm converting to 6v no maintenance types.
I won't even give this automatic water thing away since I don't trust it. The good news is that it is made of plastic and therefore will fit nicely in my recycle bin.

Oz, thanks for the reminder. I know my tires have gone down with the lower temps, so as long as I have the compressor out, I'll crawl under and check the spare. We appreciate the reminder.

I apologize here gang but, I didn't mean to get off track on this thread. Recumbant's post put me in a "time-warp".

when you get old & the hand shakes you can use a turkey injector to put water in the batters. Be sure to wash it out first.
