Ford F350 6.0 Diesels
We have a 2006 Ford F350 with the 6.0 diesel. I didn't realize when we bought it that there were major issues with keep oil temps down. I was told that most of the problems are with vehicles that idol a lot or ones that tow.
I know after research that our vehicle did have an EGR replacement done on it, but what I understand is that the Ford replacement doesn't solve the problem. Bullet Proof Diesel puts out a EGR coolant replacement that supposedly fixes the problem. Anyone out there had any experiences with the problem or the after market solutions?
Note: I bought the vehicle with 61k on it. It now has 88K and I have not had an issue, but am holding my breath.
Any help would be appreciated.

6.0 had lots of early problems. We had a 2005 and put 140k on it almost all towing, with no problems. Having said that, the 6.0 never had a good rep. Lots of info available on the Dieselstopformum

bulletproof diesel puts out excellent products and the EGR cooler is one of a few good things to do for the 6.0 the 6.0 had casting issues when they were maufactured and they did not get all the sand out and it clogged oil coolers ,Egr coolers etc... it is CRITICAL to keep the oil clean in the 6.0 ,I was a Ford guy but did not want to put all the money in trying to keep it reliable so I turned Trader and went with a Duramax

Two friends with later model 6.0s with no problems. Both high have high miles. I do know resale in California are poor on 6.0s because of reputation, deserved or not.
My 7.3 2003 F450 sold for over $21,000 first day on market in April this year, with 200,000 miles. That market is extremely strong.

I started a thread several months ago on my new/old '06 F350 DRW 6.0 that only had 28k miles on it when I purchased it last March.
http://www.montanaowners.com/forums/...ad.php?t=55321
I thought someone had posted a comment there that made the most sense to me, but I can't find it - basically that the 6.0 (made by another company) was intended to be a school bus engine, and not have all the emissions & oil cooler added on. Problem was the maker wasn't all that careful about flushing out the casting 'sand' before assembly and some engines had enough to clog the EGR and oil cooler. This obviously causes decreased oil pressure and increased temps, and nasty other results. If you look up comments on Ford Truck Enthusiasts or The Diesel Stop, you'll find people who've deleted the EGR and replaced head bolts and oil coolers to keep from having problems. While I could do all that and still be way ahead because of the price I paid for it (replace the whole engine too!), I opted for a thorough coolant flush and an aftermarket coolant filter kit. There's also some comments about Ford coolant having 'silicates' in it that I really think are left over from casting and not from the coolant itself. Almost 6k miles later and mine's still going strong - and the coolant filter hasn't clogged yet (you can tell its clogged when it doesn't get hot with engine temp.). Figure I'll change it with the next oil change come spring.
