King Bed Base
I am wondering if anyone who has the Mountaineer 310 could tell me if the plywood base of a king size bed is actually the full width of the bed, or if a queen mattress would cover the width. We have an awesome queen mattress that we will need to get rid of, but thought we could transfer it to the new Mountaineer 310. Only if it will fit ok though. This will also give us more walk around room in the bedroom, not much but some.

I changed our king mattress and discovered that the base was actually the queen size-I actually knew this as the king mattress was much larger than the base.I expanded the base so the new mattress fits the base- so much for factory upgrade!

Well for me that is great. We bought a nice queen size mattress for our traded tt and kept it and put the old one back in. Now we can put the mattress in the new 5ver. Plus I have a lot of queen size comforter sets I can use in the new. Thanks for the reply!

On our previous 2008 3400 RL I converted the king to a queen. Had to trim the plywood base a small amount on each side. No big deal with a jigsaw. Took about 10 minutes and a little vacuum work after the cuts. Gives you more space around bed too.

If the trailer was ordered with a king bed option you will have to trim the base on both sides as stated above. Like you we keep our awesome residential queen matt for transfer to any new Montana that we buy.

We trimmed ours and couldn't be happier. More room in the bedroom and plenty of room to sleep.

Last year I got rid of my King bed in the house, we have a large bedroom but it seemed overpowering, plus comforter sets were expensive and I like to change a lot. So we switched to a queen and I love it. See no reason to have a King in the RV. If it is not that hard to cut down then we will do that. Thanks much.

We've a queen Sleep Number in the sticks & bricks, but our Monty came with a king. The mattress is still OK, but it'll be changed out to a queen once it starts getting lumpy as we agree with what others have said. From previous experience, I know that won't be too long.

We had a brand new queen in our SOB which we changed to our Monte. The Monte had a king and like all the others that changed to a queen we just trimmed the base.

Same her trimmed the base and put in our Queen from the old rig. Lots more room in the bed room. Love it.

We have a Monty 3582RL and we did the same thing. Took the King out and replaced with a new Queen. We also had to trim a little off each side. We removed the hinge and took outside and trimmed both sides, sanded the edges off and then replaced. We did not have the mess inside. The addition on both sides was great and it was muh easier to make the bed.
