Basement Door Flaw
Has anyone had a problem with the screws on the support rod striping out of the door. The door material seems to be rather weak for attaching something with screws. Mine stripped out on my 2012 Montana. Any ideas for fixing and making it strong enough to hold.

This has come up before. The closers Keystone originally used were too strong for the material on the doors. If you use the search function you can find some of the threads. One of our owners recommended this article from another forum: http://www.cedarcreekrvownersclub.co...hp?f=24&t=1708 It should give you some ideas.

Our dealer fixed ours by adding Metal Plates and using rivets in place of screws, and changing the original struts that were to heavy. Haven't had a repeat issue so I guess it is working.

Boy Howdy ... the guy DQDick linked us to took a long stride to restore my faith in American know how and craftsmanship. NO discredit meant to any MOC members.

Here is a discussion on this topic from earlier this month. http://www.montanaowners.com/forums/...ad.php?t=50447 The link DQDick provided is a variation on the same theme. I wonder why that wasn't posted before?

Until we take Hannah(Montana) in for service at the end of hunting season, I have seemingly corrected our support issue by installing new #12x1/2" sheet metal screws in place of the originals. The threads are much deeper. Also, I had to drill the holes in the bracket larger. Keystone is still going to address the issue at a later date, along with other service concerns. We have had GREAT service from Camping World of Northern Michigan thanks to a very attentive Missy in service.

In my travels I've found other owners with the same problem. It seems to be the door side, left bracket. I took it in when we returned home and they have put bigger screws. We will see if that stands the test.
