Dual Battery Hookup Configuration
For a dual 12volt battery hookup in the Montana, would someone detail how the cables should be connected? Thanks

Positive to positive to trailer positive
Negative to negative to trailer ground.
Suggest you put a knife switch between the trailer positive and the last battery positive.

I like the ability to immediately remove the battery feed from the trailer. The knife switch or Battery switch is not essential but I feel a good safety factor.

I do exactly what H. John suggests. The knife switch is a very convenient way to disconnect the batteries from the coach when needed. I also use a separate battery minder conditioner/charger and the knife switch makes it very easy to isolate the batteries so the Battery Minder can do its work.
When its time to RV, I remove the Battery Minder (and the batteries are charged up), then put the knife switch back down and voila! we're ready to go!

Thanks John, that makes sense. It'll be on my list of stuff to do when I get home.

Dick,
If your still next to the Ozz, get him to do all your "RV Honey Do's". Lord knows he's bored out of his mind trying to hide stuff from our transient neighbors from the south.

when hooking up the batteries, I have two 6 volt. The two black wires go to the positive of which battery, does it matter. Where does the red wire go? thanks, First time out. The batteries were not hooked up when i bought the unit.

I'd not rely on color ... a short cable should connect the positive of one battery to the negative of the other. The remaining negative terminal should be hooked to the cable that is grounded (attached) to the frame. The third cable should go on the remaining positive terminal. Be sure you have two six volt batteries or you'll end up with 24 volts as I described the battery hookup in series.

I recommend putting the knife switch between the negative terminal and the chassis. They are typically unprotected and subject to shorting. I tried to take a picture of my knife switch installation but too dark tonight...
