Rims

Went and had my Marathon (china bombs) replaced today on our 2011 Mountaineer and noticed my rims are showing a lot of what I would call spider webbing under the clear coat on the rims, is this normal? Unit is just out of warrenty by about 1 1/2 months but just feel the clear coat should hold up longer than this.

I would think it would be normal for the clear coat to crack and wear, if the spider-web cracks are in the rims themselves, then you need to contact Tredit. The warranty for the rims (I think it is lifetime???) is through them. I would photograph the rims and let them take a look see. Previous forum postings indicate they are very good to work with.

I'm not sure if it's normal, but mine are showing it in places as well. Sadly, the new aluminum rims on my boat trailer have spider webbed after only about a year and a half of ownership. I don't believe it's the wheel itself, but just the clearcoat. Stuff just doesn't last like it used to. If the plastic cups at Mickey D's get any thinner, you'll not be able to pick up a soft drink without the cup collapsing in your hand.

We were preparing to leave our campsite in Matagorda, Texas, last August and head for Montana, when we discovered 3 of our Tredit rims were cracked badly--not just spider-web cracks, but cracks that were deep and wide. I called Tredit on a Friday afternoon at 3:00 PM, and Monday before noon I had 3 new rims from Tredit delivered to us in Matagorda. Your rims should be covered under warranty. Tredit was extremely easy to work with and gave us no problems about replacing those rims. By the way, we bought a 4th rim to replace the only rim that hadn't cracked, because we figured it was just a matter of time before it cracked, too.
