Montana 50 AMP Cord Metal Tab on trailer end

Hi I need a new cord does anyone know what the metal tab on the trailer end of a 50 amp cord does? Is it necessary or can you do without it?

Thanks

You need the Tab as it is the Ground Connection. 50 Amp has 4 wires. 2 Hot, 1 Netural, and 1 Ground.

You absolutely need the tab as it is the ground wire contact.

One thing that can extend the life of your cords and plugs is never connect or disconnect with the power on.
