Washer/Dryer

Okay gals got a question for you. We pick up our 2008 3400rl in a couple of weeks. It is prewired for washer/dryer combo. But I don't know if that is the way to go or rewire for 220 and get stackables. We will be full-timers in a few months (hopefully) so I would like some of your opinions. I need help! This is all new to me. JandC (Cindy)

Sorry for asking same old question. I just now found the "archive" button and read what was posted on the "washer/dryer" question. I'll get the hang of the forum soon - promise.

You can ask any question, don't have to use the search if you want a 'live' answer.
Glad you are on the Forum.
Jim and I have the same unit, and he wired in a 220 dryer, I love it. Jim (Ozz) put in a set of Maytags we bought at Sears. We do a lot of laundry, Jim is always doing some work on the Montana and has lots of dirty clothes. Today, I did 2 loads of clothes, did the sheets-3rd, and we have kitties, so I fluffed and de-haired the blankets we use to snuggle on the couch.
With the Maytags we can do heavy loads and the dryer is hot.

jandC. we chose not to get a washer/dryer. my husband has the job of doing the laundry every Wednesday. it gives him a break as well as myself.

my suggestion would be save your quarters.

While many of the places we work allow us to use a washer/dryer for free we still find ourselves using ours in the rig about three months or so every year. We need it for coming and going as well as at our home base. It's very handy and I know someone hasn't just washed some greasy jeans right before me. We have the combo, but that's because our rig doesn't have space for a stackable set. We're very happy the way we are and wouldn't want to live without being able to do a load in the rig when we need or want to.

We have the Splendide stackables in our 3400. A good friend moved the electrical recpts up on the wall as once the stackables are in that small space it's difficult to put hand on the side to plug or unplug them. Also have a water valve trap door on wall going up the stairs to the bedroom. If you workcamp you may get free electric and if so not sure you would need 220. Dryer at 110 does take a little longer to dry. We have had for 3 years and all works great. Good luck on your choice.

I guess Ozz can use his washer/dryer for the kittens, too, but I hope he uses a real low heat setting, or the little buggers will get too much static. When you're done, I recommend you stand at the side of the appliance, open the door and stay out of their way cuz they'll be flying out of there and you could get hurt.

Just kidding'. I've never done this. I'll leave it at that.

Seriously though, if we full-timed, the convenience of the W/D in the rig would be a strong consideration, but I'd get a bigger truck since this would also mean I want a genny and 2nd A/C which means the pin weight would exceed my current TV's rear end rating.

I'd have to think about the 220v conversion though. I'd research the weight and efficiency of the 110v/propane RV appliances versus the higher electrical load of the 220v. But that's just me.

Art, there is no way Ozz would put a cat in the dryer...but I did hear a rumor that he was caught about to put one in the microwave.

When we had our 2008 3400 RL the DW decided to go out to do laundry and use the space for storage.

Why, a cat in the dryer might just turn into a.... cat-tasrophy.... Ouch!
I'm here all week folks, Velvet jacket and all...
Seriously, Sue loves the dryer and washer, she is washing lots of stuff because we are headed to a dirt pile somewhere to boondock. She has done about 5 so far.
If she holds off for a while, she can do around 7 to catch up.
It is much more pleasant to do laundry in your own place than cart it off somewhere and wait for everything, then cart it back to the Casa. You can relax at home while the laundry is being done. My 2 cents worth
I vote: Go for it, the 220 is my choice, but a 110v would be just dandy.

We each have to look at our own situation and make a decision based on it. The first 3 months we spent in the Monty convinced us to get our own washer. Our Monty was setup to take the stackables, but we decided that the combo unit would work for our needs, so that's what we went with. When ordering our current SOB another combo unit was on the list. We generally do a small load every other day, shorts, tee shirts, and underware. When done we hang them on a line off the back of the rig (we didn't make the MOC special, bought one from CW) it works for use and we use the dryer space for additional storage. Again, our choice.

Love our combo w/d spendide 2100xc. We do not full time, so we are happy with the combo, but if we would full time, a stackable would be nice with the 220. So nice to be able to wash in our Montana and not have to wait at the laundry. If we have a sunny day, I like to hang my wash out on a rack to air dry.

We have the combo unit and it works just fine. It might take a bit longer to do the laundry but who cares? We put it in and sit down with a drink and enjoy ourselves. It's not like we have to stand there and watch it.
