Reese R20 hitch failure

I would like to share info about our Reese R20 fifth wheel hitch #30867, that we bought new with our Montana in January 2018. Last week in a remote area of Washington State the hitch head failed. The release handle fell off making it impossible to unlock the jaws, and then also a solid rubber nipple, that is probably 1/2” thick by 1” long or more, sheared off. When pulling the handle the nipple looks like it opens the jaws. Rotating the handle unlocks the jaws.
From what I can find the hitch has been discontinued and parts don’t seem to be available. I have left messages with Horizon Global, the manufacturer of the Reese hitch, but have not heard back from them as of yet. I think I was very lucky that our 5er didn’t unhitch and crash while driving.
In the mean time, we’re now proud owners of the Curt Crosswing hitch, the only one immediately available after driving 60 miles to the big city of Omak.
