Propane Furnace

I’ve never had a furnace act like this one...

Getting cold up north so we’ve got the propane furnace fired up. Temperature set at 70 and she’s giving us good heat. Question... is it normal for the furnace to run for 10 mins, reach its desired temp, shut off BUT then fire right back up again (within 30 seconds)??

I’ve been observing this for the last hour and it’s driving me nuts. On, Off, On, Off, On, Off...

Thoughts?

Also... how do you change the temperature spread between when the furnace kicks off and then back on again. As I sit here staring at the in-command screen, it appears it’s at a 1 degree split between on and off. Any way I can make it 3 or 4 degree split??

One cause is the hole and void in the wall behind the thermostat. Remove the Tstat, stuff the hole with insulation and re-install the Tstat and see if that solves the problem.

What Carl n Susan said.

Also make sure you don't have a heating duct blowing directly on it as it'll heat up and cool down quickly.

I removed all my floor ducts and bent the fins with a pair of needle nosed pliers so they are all pointing straight up. Ours now works like a charm.

The one degree above set point is called the "heat anticipator". Back in the day it was adjustable. I'm not aware of any way to adjust in on digital units.

My old 2005 Montana had a light switch inside the bathroom that was immediately behind the thermostat. These 12V switches heat up a little, so if the light was left on it would heat up the thermostat, causing erroneous heat and AC fluctuations.
