Dometic awning

Anyone know what the half circle cut outs on the awning arms are for? On my old trailers manual awnings, I could unhook the bottom and lay the awning flat against the trailer which made cleaning easier. Would I dare remove the hinge pin on the automatic unit to accomplish this?

I think it’s where the pins that are on the arm that extends out will rest when retracted

I listed the wrong make. The awnings are by Carefree. The question though is the same.

DadsHemi is correct. DO NOT try to take anything apart. The gas struts are under high pressure and tension. A good way to lose a finger if you don’t know exactly what you are doing. The power awnings cannot be laid down flat against the side of the trailer like in the old days. The best way to clean the awning is to use a healthy squirt of Dawn dish soap & a cup of household bleach in a 2&1/2 gallon bucket, use a long handled brush to brush it on one side of the awning, (I usually do mine while I’m washing the roof with the same mixture) then roll the awning up. Wait 15 minutes or so, unroll & rinse.
