Searching for campgrounds with a view
My husband and I would love to spend a month or more in the summer at a campground somewhere out west with a gorgeous mountain view. The idea was inspired by an episode of Virgin River so if you've seen it, you get the idea. I'm really not sure how to even go about researching this other than by asking here. I don't think a google search of "campground with a view" will be fruitful.
In order of importance, we would want:
1. Full hookups (including reliable wifi/cell signal for working)
2. Gorgeous scenery
3. Access to running path
4. A grocery store within 40 miles
Other than that, we are really not picky. What's the best way to go about finding a place? Of course, I'm hoping for some great recommendations here....
Thanks in advance!
Jeff and Kim

Estes Park (town in Colorado) might be your best bet. I don’t know about running paths in the area, but there are lots of hiking trails.

Polson, MT KOA. Overlooks Flathead Lake with the Rockies behind. Breathtaking. 45 mins to Glacier NP west entrance.

Kim, we live in the mountains and can attest that the views are awe inspiring. Grand Lake and Estes Park are good choices in Colorado. Look at some of the photos on the reviews in RV Trip Wizard. Those photos are uploaded by users. I have yet to find mountain internet that is suitable for work, and many don’t have cell signal (or limited). (We don’t get cell at our house.) If you are in town, you won’t get the views you want, and out in he wilderness you lose the services. We use StarLink and have the best of both worlds. Of course we have a heavy solar package and usually boondock. Enjoy.

We stayed at 7 Mile RV park just north of Moab Utah (very near Arches NP). They offer dry camping and FHU. Very reasonable for Moab area. We had a beautiful mountain view out the windows in just about any direction.
KOA St Mary's, East Glacier NP. Montana.
Again the views of the mountains was inspiring.

Hi Jeff & Kim
You’re welcome to scroll through my blog where nearly everything mentioned in Summer Trips is “out west”. Versus AZ & TX in the “Spring” categories.
https://smallhomebigyard.wordpress.com/
I try to photograph scenery and detail hookups and internet speeds in most of the locations. If you found something you might be interested, you could google for running/hiking paths and grocery stores.
Just scrolling through this year, I see Heber City, UT where the Western Region MOC held the spring rally. Gorgeous scenery all around, great park services, and I would imagine plenty of hiking/biking/running trails all around. On the smaller side is Bayfield, CO. Again, great scenery, nice park, plenty to see and do around the Four Corners area of Colorado. Last year the MOC was in Dolores, again – Four Corners area, and beautiful scenery and great park.
Plenty to choose from – let me know if I can answer any specific questions.
Randy

I would look at June Lake Loop in the eastern Sierras of California. Many locations, but I think that for RVing, the campsite at the eastern side of June Lake is the best. You have miles of terrain to run upon and the fishing is excellent. But, you are at a HIGHER altitude. There are great locations south by Mammoth Lakes and Bishop too.
Other option is the Morro State Park on the Central Coast of California. Time to book will be at the 6 months before the desired date of arrival. 30-amp service and water at the site. This is our go-to park for relaxing, wine tasting and some fine sea food dining.
Or Quary Lakes, which is an Alameda County Park in the San Fransico area of California. More foothills than mountains, but you are right next to SF Bay.
If this interest you, pls feel free to PM me.
Cheers

This is all fantastic information and getting me very excited to take our first extended trip out west! I just love this MOC forum and quite honestly, it helped us tip the scales to our "new to us" 377FL. What an amazing group of people gather here.

We would recommend the Sun Outdoors Rocky Mountains in Granby, CO. At almost 8,000’ elevation, the summers are cool and clear with occasional afternoon rain showers. Located just over the west side of the Continental Divide. Easy access to the west entrance to RMNP (pay attention to reservation requirements into the NP, depending on when you stay). Tons of hiking, mountain biking and running trails. Campground is located near the gold medal waters of the Colorado River and near many beautiful mountain lakes including Granby Reservoir, Shadow Mountain Lake and Grand Lake. Make time to drive over Trail Ridge Road and Corona Pass Road to the top of the Continental Divide.

Winding River Resort is just outside the west gate of Rocky Mountain park. May be hard to get reservations but it is a beautiful campground and lots of activities. It is near Grand Lake.
