Gray tanks capacities

I recently purchased a 2005 2955. I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered it had 2 grey water tanks. However the technician that did the walkthrough with me did not know what size they were!
The specs on the Montana home page say the grey capacity is 76 gal. If there are now 2 tanks, have they split the 76 gal between the two tanks or do I actually have a total two tank capacity which is more than 76gal??? - anyone out there know?

We have two tanks that total 76 gallons and I believe are 38 gallons each, one for the galley and the other for the tub/shower and bathroom sink. We seldom shower in our unit although we do use the tub for our 10 month old grand-daughter so we hardly ever have much in that grey tank.

Go to the general section of this forum and look at the picture of the 2955's grey water tank under "frozen pipes a thing of the past" posted by me. I beleive the tank is divided and not two tanks.

You have 2- 38 gallon gray water tanks, 1- 38 gallon black water and 1- 60 gallon freshwater.

Now seeing as how you were not aware that you had 2 gray water tanks I would bet the dealer didn't tell you where the second gray water valve was located either.
You probably know about the one inside the left basement door, aside of the black tank valve. The 2nd gray water valve on the 2955 is located up on the left frame "between" the tires. Tough to see as the trailer frame is black and so is the handle. Look close and you will see it.

Glenn is correct on the size of the tanks and the location of the handles. Be aware the one with handle between the wheels is the "galley tank" and only drains the kitchen sink. So you'll effectively fill the bath tank first. If you're in a place with no sewer hookup, you can share these tanks by adding an additional valve at the dump cap outlet. There's a couple of threads on this in MOC so if you're interested post back and one of us will get the link for you. To share, you close the extra valve and open both gray valves. Parts to add the extra valve were less than twenty bucks and it's about ten minutes' work. Be aware if in freezing weather, that extra valve is unprotected and can freeze closed, making it impossible to dump until you thaw it out. This happened to someone here recently. We normally just leave the extra one open in freezing weather but mostly because we're usually on a sewer hookup.

Thanks for all the info - I have found the 2nd gray water valve. The kit that enables you to use the 2 tanks together looks good. I will definitely give it a try.
Thanks for all your help.

Glenn -

Wish I knew that last year about location of the second tank. We had dumped the grey water and a day later the sink was backing up. After crawling around in the dark, finally found the second valve. Dealer forgot to show us that one. I will probably buy the spare valve for when boondocking this summer. Got to see several this fall at the rally. Congratulations on the new unit, Markwick.

That seems to have happened to many of the Montana owners. I found out about the galley valve from palebluedot. We had rendezvoused with him at Pigeon Forge. We were just sitting around the campfire when he asked how many tank valves I had. I said two, a black and a gray.

I guess we had a little better tech than what some of you had. He showed us where the three handles were. There was one thing that he didn't know but fond out. Can't remember what it was now. Our dealer was Walnut Ridge in New Castle In. So far I'm pleased with them. When we had some work done on it they did a good job. Even ended up putting new brakes shoes all around since ours were locking up.

I am interested in adding the extra valve, if someone post the link, that would be great.

Thanks

Here's one. There may be others but this is the first one I found.

Just to show how different we can be from one another: we almost always fill the galley tank before the shower/bath tank. I guess we wash more dishes than we take showers! [Or have cleaner dishes than bodies!]

Anyway, we are glad the Montana has two grey water tanks, especially when we are in the kind of state parks, federal facilities we often prefer (which have no sewer hookup). We can manage quite well for several days.

The galley valve on our 2750 was just behind the rear tire on the curb side. This was under the slide when the slide was open...had to crwal under the slide to open the valve. Being the lazy guy I am, I used the awning rod to hook the valve handle to open and then push it closed. This worked well since I no longer had to crawl under the slide.

I'm not sure where the galley valve is on the new 3475 but I assume somewhere close to where it was on the 2750 and probably still under a slide!!!!

I'm not sure, either, about the 3475 but on the 3295rk it's under the slide but at the far rear corner of the slide. An easy reach even with slide out. When we had a 2880rl, that one had it between the wheels, not an easy reach. The awning rod would have been a good solution had I been smart enough to think of that...
