Scratchs in Countertop

Have some minor suface scratches in my Kitchen countertop. Has anyone tried to remove the scratches. I understand you can use a Scotchbrite pad to take them out or fine grit sandpaper. This was suggested for Corian type countertops. I know Montana does not use Corian but some type of solid surface material. I do not want to attempt this without getting some feedback. Thanks.

I know for a fact that this surface is sandable. (Is that a word?)

I'm guessing that a super fine steel wool, as well as a Scotchbrite, will take out scratches, without messing up the rest of the surface.

Hang around for more feedback. Maybe even someone who's done more than just whittle away at a minor gouge.

Our new 06 2955 RL's counter was totally scratched - very badly everywhere. The dealer said to get some car rubbing compound and then to use car wax. It took some rubbing, but they all came out and it looks just fine. Hope this helps.

Use a electric ossilating buffer with adjustable speed when applying the compound and wax if you have the Gloss finish the matt finish the scotch pads work good in that area also that can also be used on the buffer too less scratches.

I found my class book on repairs on scratches Corian and Avanite are the same in repairs.

I also have other repairs for other problems available.

Silverbird......if your counter was badly scratched everywhere why didn't your dealer take care of the repair instead of telling you how to do it? This doesn't seem right to me!

We took delivery on it in January in Minn., put it in storage and didn't notice it until we got it out in spring. We are 2 1/2+ hours away from dealer - it was easier to correct ourselves. This problem was also minor compared to other problems we have had with it, the latest being a "zapped" converter plus all the electronics are "fried", we have to replace 2 tvs, 1 DVD, 1 microwave. Our shade over the table also ripped!!! You get to the point where you want to cry, but instead you laugh - what next!!!!???
