Dodged Tornado
Sunday started out like any regular one for us, looking forward to the Bears playing, then about 11am the tornado siren went off. Since our campground doesn't really have a good shelter we grabbed jackets and headed for our friends basement in Washington IL, which was only about 4 miles down the road. We were almost there and here came what they are now claiming was an F-3. I got my buddy on the phone and he was heading to the basement and it sure didn't look like we could make it to his place so we did a right angle to the monster and put the "pedal to the metal". It ended up crossing the highway about 1/2 mile behind us. We waited a few minutes and tried to get back into Washington to check on friends but the damage was too devastating and we couldn't get through. With utilities and cell towers down it took us another couple of hours but we were able to confirm no injuries or deaths to friends or family in and around Washington. The campground survived with little or no damage also. We are praying for the hundreds if not thousands of Washington citizens who have lost everything today.
