DIY Bed Liners

Anybody ever used a DIY bed liner kit, and if so how well does it hold up ?

I used one on our old truck and it held up well. do two coats. The hard work is prepping the bed,you need to clean and scuff it down so it adheres

I see you have a new truck. I would highly suggest you go to your dealer and have them spray in a liner. Ford has a very good product out and looks great. Had it done when I bought ours, worth every penny

I had LineX applied a year after I bought the truck. They had a heck of a time preparing the bed but did well and the coating did its job on my 03 Ram. I recommend it. I know you wanted DYI but the discussion lead to my comment.
Good luck and Safe travels.

A neighbor applied it to a horse trailer. It was very thin much thiner than Line X. I don't know how well it held up. It was put on the frame and not on the floor.

I know nothing about the ones I have seen, but I have seen some that appeared to be DIY that had scratched and peeled badly. They were very thin and appeared to scratch easily. Have seen several of those in parking lots and such but again, I have no idea how they were done.

I had Line-x on my previous truck and had the dealer do my current truck. But I think he just sent it out to a local business that does spray bed liners. Both appear equal quality.

I went with Herculiner. Obviously it won't be as tough as the thick spray in liners if you are sliding in steel fence posts or concrete blocks, but for me it has held up well for several years. It costs way less as well. As mentioned ... scotchbrite the bed really well ... wipe it down with laquer thinner ... apply 2 coats. If it does scuff down to metal ... simply touch the area up as it blends well. The touchup will be a glossier black at first, but the sun takes care of that in a few weeks. I believe most all the brands of the roll ons work about the same.

I thought for a moment you were referring to a liner not a spray on protectant. I have one of these that I installed when the truck was new (took about 1 hour).
It can be removed when you sell the truck and the bed looks brand new. Big advantage for me is that the underside is padded and when I kneel on it, it doesn't kill my knees ... http://www.bedrug.com/products/bed-liners/bed-rug.html

I did my own in my 2005 GMC and last year I had to touch it up. The worst part is proper prep work which took about 2 -2 1/2 hours. I rolled mine and did two coats the first time. The touch up was a spray can.

Our vote is with LineX. Our first truck had LineX installed immediately after we bought it. We were not easy on the truck and hauled a lot of farm related items in the bed. When we traded the truck the bed after six years the bed looked the same as when it was applied.

I used one of the DIY kits on my old truck. It held up OK but did scratch pretty easy, but then I use my truck pretty hard. For the time I tied up in the prep and application I wish I had payed LineX. The spray on application is just much heavier and more durable in my opinion. Jim

I had a spray in done in '12 at no extra cost when the bed was rebuilt due to a dead tree destroying it. It was not apart of the estimate, but the new metal did not have to be preped and painted so savings there. I am happy with my Rhino.

Just made appt with a Rhino dealer in Newark Delaware. Use them back in 2000 for my first F-250. Was very happy with all Rhino liner (this will be the 4th Rhino.) Still hard to beat tax free shopping. Just 8'
bed under the rail $450( no tailgate.)

Found a few kits on line, for good kit it about $285. About 125 mils thick. plus a lot prep work. This way drop it off Saturday at 9 pick up by 1

I have a Linex liner in our current tv- Had a Rhino liner in the previous tv- I think the Rhino liner is superior to Linex- It appeared to be thicker and more flexible, but that could've been the result of better workmanship on the part of the tech applying the liner- At any rate, what have any of you used to repair your liner? I can hardly take the tv back to Texas to the Linex dealer for repairs and I have found no local store who were willing to repair the Linex liner in our tv- I appreciate all replies And THANX in advance- Don

Waited to reply on this topic. On my 2014 F450 I used ( had applied) a product called Reflexliner. Never heard of it till I saw a sample. It looks today like it did when I had it applied, $460.00. I used "diy on my Gen box to save money, looks like poo! . I just dropped off Gen Boc, to have Reflix applied. Nothing beats professional application. It's a live time investment. I believe it's not worth a less than perfect job. Therefore leave Bed Liner to the pros! MHO!

Line-X has a nationwide guaranty. I would contact them directly and ask where to take it.
