Security system's

Hey All,

I just saw a TV commercial for a home security system. Has anyone installed anything like these systems in their Montana's? If you have how well dose it work.

I was actually researching something like this not long ago. Take a look at https://changinglanesrv.com/?s=security+system. They use Ring and Simplisafe systems.

I installed a ring system myself two years ago while I was full-timing in the Phoenix area near Wickenburg AZ. I have a 3661RL. The install was extremely easy. I covered the bedroom with a motion detector. The kitchen and living room with a motion detector and all exterior doors with contact sensors. Installed the base station in the closet. The system did its job twice for me when on two separate occasions someone tried to steal my propane tanks. They opened the propane doors and the system sounded. I then received a notice on my phone while at work. They got away but I still have my tanks.

Keep in mind that these systems can operate beneficially a couple of different ways.

1. Connected to the Internet with the monitoring option.

2. Disconnected from the Internet as just a local alarm system.

At a minimum, for me, I like having it in either state because it makes a hell of a racket when tripped sending the riff raff a runnin and looking for some toilet paper to clean up.

We have been full timing for 10 years now. Traveled the country and worked for Fish and Wildlife in some remote places and we've never met anyone who had their rig broken into anywhere but on a storage yard or dealers lot.

I used a common easily found home setup on our last 5er. This used standard proximity window sensors and 100+dB horn on the entry door, basement and tank hatches. Since they were 12VDC battery operated, didn't need a separate battery though it could have beed added. It took a bit of work and some wire runs but would have worked if needed - which luckily, wasn't. I haven't installed a system on this 5er but do occasionally use a pad lock on the propane tank strap lock loops. Yeah, I know, bad idea, but that lock is only installed if we are in a less then desireable CG/site and will be away late.

Another benefit of the system for RVers, that many lose sight of, is when installed and configured properly, and connected to the internet, is the ability of the system to provide 911/Emergency Services with the exact location of your rig. Location service that is accurate to within ten meters.

Many parks are not mapped appropriately and when seconds and minutes matter, say in the event of a medical emergency. A push of a button is all it takes.

I am with Dick, have never had anything taken and see no need for a security system.

Harbor freight wireless cameras with the camera app. But were full time.

Hey thanks all of you. Really great information that you guys posted. I am mostly asking these question for my wife's benefit. We will be full timing in 2 weeks and she still is a little worried about being in the trailer alone and somethings were to happen. She is good with a gun and we both carry .45 cal semi auto's. And we have to dogs. One will open the door and invite them and the other will hold the flash light for them. That is if they wake up from the 24 hour a day naps.

I wonder is a security system really worth it. By the time the alarm goes off someone is already in your camper and what are they going to steal your silverware or fine china. Sure you will have their picture but what good is that going to do you. I can’t imagine police really hunting for them. They have more pressing and thing to do, read donuts. If you are in your camper a 45 is a real awakening. Point one of those at someone and they will be alarmed.

I have an alarm and cameras in my stick and brick for when we are on the road. The alarm wakes me up and I can turn on the link to the cameras on my phone and watch people as they steal my stuff from anywhere in the US.
