GVMW question
Hello,
New to fifth wheel world.... Bought from RV connections panama city.... they 'included' a hitch in the deal and it is a 16k hitch.... I bought a 3791RD with the following specs..... is it an issue that the GVMW could be above 16k? Doesn't seem right to me but new to this... thank you.
Dry Weight 13,900 lbs
Payload Capacity 2,900 lbs
GVWR 16,800 lbs
Hitch Weight 2,835 lbs.

That hitch is too small for your RV. Get at least a 18 or 20K one instead. What brand is it?

Hitch brand is a HUSKY... and rating 16k... it seems ridiculous for a dealer to out that on!

Probably he had a couple of inexpensive, Chineses made, light weight Husky's laying around and wanted to get rid of them to an unsuspecting customer. While I had owned a Husky in the past when it was still made in USA, the offshore ones have been cheapened up a bit. There are any number of better hitches out there. There are mucho threads here on the best hitch and Husky is never mentioned.

I wouldn't use that under any circumstances. If someone pulls out in front of you or, for some reason, you hit something headon you're counting on the hitch to keep the Montana from coming thru the back of your cab. There are plenty of other reasons not to use a too light hitch, but that's the one that hits me most.

When we bought our 2955RL we got a hitch included in the deal. So the Dealer said they would supply a 16K, which would have been OK with that unit, but I told them I had to have at least an 18K, wanted some margin. They said they didn't have an 18K, so how about a 20K, I said SOLD.
