water heater element

I know this has been discussed before but how about some recent info. I did the dumb thing and accidently dry fired the water heater couse now it pops the circuit breaker. So here is the question. What size socket does it take and for those who have replaced before did you have to take off the propane line or assy. By the way, I have a 2006 3400RL.
I have the lower cover off and the wires to the element is exposed so I know I can remove them easily enough.

I bought the socket at Lowes along with the replacement element, IIRC it was along the lines of 1 1/4". The socket I bought was in the water heater parts with the elements. I'm not where I can get to mine to look at it but dont remember there being any different sizes on the shelf when I purchased.

It is a standard size, they have the 5 inch long standard socket-like wrenches beside the elements in Lowes and Home Depot for around $4 if I remember correctly. I now have one in the toolbox!! I have to remove the propane line to get our cover off and the element removed.
