King Pin & Loaded Trailer Weight

I went to a CAT scale and weighed the trailer with the loaded trailer on the scale and connected to the tow vehicle hitch with it off the scale - 11,820 lbs. Then I weighed the loaded trailer off the tow vehicle hitch - 15,040 lbs. The 3,220 lb difference I asume is the King pin weight, which is 21% or within the recommended 15-25% of the loaded trailer weight. Did I measure that right? Anyone ever measure their King pin weight and/or loaded trailer weight?

I guess that one way of getting your pin weight, most weight the truck with out the 5th connected and then weigh truck and trailer together, this will give you your pin weight and your GCWR. What model and year 5th do you have ? And what do you pull it with.

Trailer is a 2020 Montana model 3780RL rated for 16,600 lb GVWR. Tow vehicle is a 2016 Ford F350 6.7L diesel Superduty XL Crew Cab DRW 4x2 long bed with 3.73 rear end ratio. I feel comfortable with the trailer weight and tow vehicle specifications, especially after towing 12,000 - 14,000 lb fifth wheel trailers with an Ford F250 7.3L diesel for 15 years. Next trip I will stop at the local truck scale in town to re-weigh based on your procedure to see what I king pin weight I get.

Even if you have the same numbers for your pin weight you will know what the trailer and truck weighs together.
