Black Tank Over-fill came out Roof Vent

I am not knowing who you are but are pointing straight at me. I did it twice and busted the tank both times. I agree that paying attention is the remedy but both times I was totally distracted and failed the test.

If you are lucky the system is strong enough to handle the pressure. BTDT!! Unfortunately some of us had systems that weren't that strong. Fell asleep during flush with terminal gate closed. Woke up to WHOOMP! Drop from toilet blew loose, toilet gasket blew out. Had black water all over bathroom and basement. Also blew out the bottom of black tank.. Luckily we were parked on a farm on an old RV site. Was very expensive nap.. It happens. Take the ribbing and deal with it.. RVing is a learning experience, I have learned a lot..

Nothing personal to you as I was talking about another member. They also overflowed their gally tank by leaving a faucet open all night. In that case the sink was the lowest escape point (the tank held up) and it left about 4" of water in the living room. That took a while to cleanup and dry.

No offense taken! I am guilty and want no one else to ever surfer that indignity as I did (twice). I wrote that mistake up a while back and when you mentioned it I knew I had to speak again. No matter what (almost) one MUST not get distracted while flushing!

Talk about having a bad day at black rock or in my case inside my barn...

SRW is definitely an advantage when dumping. Could never figure out why anybody would have anything else.

It was a Montana - I thought an overfill would flood the inside or basement first?

This happens to the Best of us experienced or not.
Recently was distracted during this enjoyable process on my final 3rd cycle and got rained on. My Monty 2018 3121RL sustained no damage, I was fortunate... Aging is a wonderful thing. Happy Travels to All.

SWR (Single Rear Wheel) has nothing to do with dumping/flushing tanks. Maybe you responded to the wrong tread?

Yes, I have done it myself. Closed the valve and forgot about it and water and poo shooting from the roof. I had a big mess to clean up. I will never do that again though!

With my previous trailer, I got distracted and hooked up the hose to the flush system. About the time my wife came out to ask why we had no water is when I felt the "rain" coming off the roof. Thankfully, no damage except to my pride.

I have to ask - why would overfilling the black tank cause it to rupture? It's designed for X number of gallons of waste. If it exceeds that magic number, the overflow will go up and out the vent. OR, does the water inflow just exceed the ability of that roof vent and open a new exit?



I've never had nor want this pleasure. I tend to dump more often then necessary and use a back flusher (Camco/Valterra), never the built in system as it has proven to be almost worthless in comparison on this as well as the last 5er.

The tanks are made in 2 pieces. A flat top is glued to the bottom section. It is a common issue for them to leak/burst if overfilled.

I think the newer ones are of a one piece design.
