It's all about perspective
Folks can pass rigs all day on the interstate, but seem to be shocked when they can put it in perspective. We're on the move now and once on I-8 and again the next day on I-17 folks have been standing at the gas pumps with their mouths open staring at our rig. The comments were it's so huge. Took me a while to understand that it doesn't look that big on the road, but just fitting under the awning in between all the cars gives people a way to judge how big it actually is. The couple on I-8 were the most fun. They were from Belgium and there, of course, trailers aren't any bigger than our Maxi Cab. Truck and trailer together at 57' and being 13'6" tall was more than they could imagine.

We often get comments while filling at a gas station as they look at our rig and dually hooked together. Mostly they seem to want to know what kind of fuel economy we get. I always quickly tell them: "not good but my theory is that some of the things in life that use the most fuel give us the most pleasure, didn't you notice the big smile on my face?"

Sort of the way I felt the first time I hooked up to the Monte since I had never towed anything longer than a 16' utility trailer. Wow, that thing is huge. But was just as quickly amazed at how easy it was to tow it.

I used to tow Boeing 707s as part of my job. THAT is a large item to tow.

My 35 ft. bumper pull was a large unit by my way of looking at trailers. When I drove to Texas and saw our 3750 hooked to my Old F450, I thought "what have I done"! Lol. My wife flew into meet me in Tenn. When she saw it in the airport parking lot, she had her mouth open and was speechless! We too get stopped by people that see 2 entry doors and say high big it looks! I try to alway remember how big it is to avoid being over confident. In fact my wife and I like "pretend" we are towing every time we drive the truck. Wide turns to make sure it stays within the lanes and getting and keeping good distances when passing.

Good point Dick. We tow our rigs and think nothing of it until we take notice that someone else has taken notice!

I bet you used a Toyota Tundra (as seen on TV with the space shuttle)

I do also, even back when I drove a tractor and I was bob-tail I drove like a trailer was back there.

Add a squirt boat to the mix and you broaden the responses. I actually get more conversation over my squirt boat than the whole double tow package.

Don't doubt that a bit. Have seen quite a few triple tows out here on I-40 and some of them are pretty darn long.
