He said it was a 30-amp service
He said it was a 30-amp service.
On our way back from Fort Smith we pulled into an out of the way place to stay for 2 or 3 days in NW Florida.
They said they had a 30 amp RV service for us to use.
What I found was and extension cord plugged into a 50 receptacle with a 30-amp receptacle on the end of it!!!!
All of the alarms went off in my head when I see this, so I get the VOM out and start checking the receptacle on the end of the cord.
Well you can guess it. It was 240 volt between the line and neutral.
Unplugged the cord at the 50 amp end and disassembled the 30 amp end. Line 1 (black) was on one side of the 30-amp receptacle and Line 2 (red) was on the other. Neutral (white) was cut off close the insulation and the ground (green) was on the ground.
I don’t know if the surge protector would have prevented any damage because I never plugged it in.
I went to a local electrical supply house and purchase a 50-amp receptacle and wired it to the end of the cord.
My surge protector said it was a good circuit and we had 50-amp service for the three nights.
There was no charge for the stay.
It pays to be careful.
