Tires

Does anyone increase the TV tire pressure when towing since the load on the rear axle increased. My tires are rated for 3750 @ 80psi while the door sticker calls for 65.

I tries 75 in front but was wearing in center of tire. I am sure you will get many different answers.

65 in the front here and 80 on the rear duallys. When I am not pulling the rig for extended times, I will drop the rears to 65 also.

I only add 50# weight on the front when towing so I run what the door says. We could help our mileage by upping the PSI but would have to give it back on the ride.

When towing, maximum pressure all around. Tire wear after 36K normal.

Don't forget when you lower the pressure you are also lowering the weight carrying capacity of that tire.

Use what is on the door sticker. The PSI on the tire is the max rating. We are nowhere near max.

Hi

We run the door sticker pressure all the time, just put new tires on at 51,000 miles. We traveled 23,000 loaded within 200 lbs of max GCVW. We only had Chevrolet dealers work on the TV and rotated the tires in accordance with GM’s instructions. There wasn’t any abnormal tire ware indicated.

Interesting responses. Guys that will max out or adjust the tire pressure on the Monty be it 80 or 110 because of load variations but will not adjust the TV pressure when they drop a ton and half on the rear axle.

I do not exceed the pillar PSI because with the proper tires and that PSI it will support the weight ratings. When I first got my F-250 I used 75 psi all around (as stated by the door pillar) and this corresponded with the tire size also stated on the pillar.

Last year, I upgraded my suspension and upgraded the tires to correspond to the F-350 numbers. The pillar for an F-350 4x4 requires 65lbs in front and 75lbs in rear to satisfy weight ratings.

I feel going any higher is overinflation and don't want to do that, but your rig combination might differ especial when I see others have made corresponding improvements that enable higher inflations.

When I am not towing or I am not traveling at maximum weight ratings I use 65 in front and 60 in rear to soften the ride. If I plan to carry a load then I will increase the rear, but loaded or not my front end does not change much. If I don't lower the psi, the tire wear starts to indicate overinflation which means the tires are inflated too much for the load I am not carrying.

One persons PSI might not match another's PSI, but knowing that increased psi in the tire increases the load rating for a tire up to the maximum should help you determine what to use in your case. Some tire sizes have a psi/load chart to help with this. That is how I came up with psi for my Michelins when not loaded. I hate when I can't find that chart anymore (I forgot to create a favorite for that link, ugh).

I run 65/65 when towing; when planning to continue towing I leave things alone. However, right now since we are not towing, and will not be able to do so for awhile, I've lowered the back duals to 40. At any higher I wear the centers out very fast!! Local Goodyear dealer suggested that I also lower my towing pressure as my kingpin weight, albeit high in my estimation, does not gross out the rear axle. After 2000 miles I had visible wear in the centers of the duals towing. Don't really know what I'll end up doing when I get to pull the 5er again.
