'06 VS '07 3400RL weight difference

Other than the '07 having 7k axles, is there any other differences in the weight capacities of these two rigs????? Like in the frame maybe?

I don't think so, Phil, but others may have additional info. I believe from what I have read that the only difference was the axle/tire change.

And it is only second half 07's that have the bigger axles. Ours didn't, but then it was built in 06 even though it is an 07. Like, Dave, I don't belive anything changed other than the axles, which in turn raised the carry capacity by a ton or so.

I would add that my 2007 Montana has a build date of 7/20/2006. 6K axles on that.

For those of you with '07's and the 6k axles, what is your GVWR? Thanks.

Build date 8/18/06 and 6k axles (now replaced with 7k with self adjusting brakes). Sticker says GVWR is 13,975.

I was told when I asked Keystone that nothing else was changed. The increase in GVWR was due to the axles. That tells me the frame and all on my earlier 07 are capable of the higher weights and now with the heavier axles and springs the rig is capable of more. Yes, I know the weight sticker doesn't change but I don't care about that. In any case we have more capability and do not plan to load it any heavier than we have in the past.

I was told by a Keystone engineer that GVWR is calculated by the required RVIA method: Axle rating plus estimated pinweight. I'm not sure if that's finite or if that's the max rating allowed. I don't see where the frame or anything else is taken into consideration in that formula.

Steve, you are correct on that figure. That's mine too. I was going by memory - starting to fade...

Thanks everyone. I feel better about changing out the suspension now, just wanted to make sure the weight difference was in the axles and not something in the frame. BTW, I have an appointment with MorRyde to have the IS system installed along with disc brakes. Will do this the week before the fall rally at Goshen.....This mod will truly make this trailer a "KEEPER".....
