Because we at times get caught up in listening to what we read on a forum or what our "Buddy" fellow RV'er told us... Or we listen to the...Been doing it for years and never had a problem..crowd. Then we hear something and say...wait a miniute..Am I doing this right?? and that causes us to do what we should have done or did do then got away from it.In my case it is a violation of my own rule.. Manufacturers establish specifications for a good reason..It is a statement of the design capabilities and maint requirements of their products and it is far better than what I think is right or what some dipstick tells me is right because that is the way they do it.

"Why does it take something like this for us to read the manual" The same thought came to me as I pulled out the manual then felt really stupid as I looked at my grease caked filthy hitch..then realized..all I had to do was... Read the ^&%$ book/////

Not to prove folks wrong but Rich is correct. Maybe we should always answer a thread question first by asking "what does your manual say" and start from there. Experiences are great coupled with a good read once in awhile. I know I need it, cause sometimes the "pictures" help me too. Some folks on here are so far ahead of me I need pictures!!!

Sometimes I work on the WAG principle and sometimes I work on the SWAG principle.

WAG = Wild A## Guess
SWAG = Scientific Wild A## Guess (read the manual)

Thanks for reminding me that the SWAG is better than the WAG!

I guess we all like to feel we can do anything, but in the end default to the old addage, "When all else fails, read the directions".
