Torsion Axles

I was wondering why camper trailers are not built with Torsion Axles vice using springs. I don't think they have the same vertical travel and frame to ground height maybe less then springs. Just looked at a website with 7,000 lb torsion axles with electric brakes. These are the axels used on race car trailers which are low to the ground.

By dropping the trailer lower to the ground that would lower the overhang closing the distance between the top of your bed and the bottom of your overhang, not a good combination when pulling or backing into an incline driveway or campsite. Just my thoughts as to why. Not to mention the rear of the 5th wheel dragging the ground, I hated thet sound with my travel trailer.

Had them on my TT. They worked very well but as GlassGuy says, hate that grating sound as the back skids encountered concrete. Also had to put up with the wheel wells intruding into the living space. Loved the low entry height and the reduced wind drag but that is all. Bob

After what you guys said I remembered my trailer had wheel wells inside the unit and the rear could drag going into some roads. Guess there are reasons. Thanks for straightening me out.
