I don't think so -- I have a battery shut-off switch but if I shut it off, then the battery doesn't get charged while plugged into shore power. Just recommend you be sure to check your water level in the battery(ies) at least monthly if you stay hooked up to shore power much.

Is the switch on the top front of the refrigerator set to Auto?? Make sure it is not set just for gas.

With our fridge set to the Auto mode it works of electricity until there is a power interruption and then it switches to gas until such time as the electricity returns.

Send a message via Yahoo to prariepoodle
Press the Auto/Gas mode selector button to the down position. The Auto mode indicator lamp will illuminate. If 120 volts AC is available, the control system will select AC operation. If 120 volts AC is not available, the control system will automatically switch to gas operation. Within 45 seconds the burner should be ignited and operating normally. If the CHECK indicator lamp illuminates the control has failed to ignite the burner on Gas.

.... just make sure you have gone outside and turned the valves on the propane bottles to "on"..... (Sorry, you probably have already done that, but just wanted to be sure).

In our rig, we have to then go inside and (to help pull the gas towards the fridge) light one or two of the burners on the stove and when they are fully enflamed, we let them run for about 15 seconds or so. Then we turn off the burners and then turn on our fridge to gas mode.

If your check indicator light doesn't come on you should be all set. You can always double check the fridge operation by going outside and taking the cover off of the outside wall of where your fridge is located and check to make sure the pilot light is on.

Thanks for the hints. Just got back from CG and had to buy another pigtail for elec. After plugging into 30 amp fridge worked fine on elect. I had it on 20 amp and that is when the gas took over. Has anyone else experienced this on 20 amp power?????

If you turn off the propane bottles between trips then you may need to do as D&M suggests. I leave ours both open all the time and thus don't have to worry about that. Both ways are fine, just personal preference.

Phil,
I have never used 20 amp power before and hope to use 30 amp as little as possible. Bought one of these contraptions at CW:
http://www.campingworld.com/browse/s...r/skunum=25774 Will be trying it out this weekend. Prefer the 50 amp because DW seems to keep the stackables humming along pretty good during the day with daughters continuosly feeding clothes into the hamper. LOL!!!

Phil: I misread your initial post above-- sorry. If you are asking why your refridgerator system is running on gas instead of Electricity when plugged into shore power - I'd say you may have a problem with the circuit board on the refridgerator. Whenever I'm plugged into AC (whether shore power 30 or 50 amp -- or running off my little Honda generator(s), my refer automatically switches to electricity. As Linda or Walt (Prariepoodle)said above, if you have your switch set correctly (running on Auto and not gas only), then the refer circuit should detect the AC voltage and go to AC. Sorry for the mis-step above; thought you were asking about shutting out the battery completely -- by the way, you do need 12 volts available for the refer to work -- the circuit board is powered by 12 volts.

Phil,
I would suggest that everything was working just fine. 20A of ac will not power much. the Microwave is on a 20 Amp circuit. You probably can not run your air conditioner on only 20Amps. SO if you only had 20 Amps running to your rig and you had anything running on AC (hot water heater, lights, electric heater, etc.) the fridge didn't sense an adaquate source of AC power and remained on propane. (just like it is supposed to). Hope this helps put your mind at ease.

Bill

I think Bill may have nailed it. Also, the refrigerator is plugged into the same circuit used for some of the kitchen (and maybe elsewhere) outlets. That would not come into play in itself but if you are getting juice to the kitchen outlets then the outlet for the fridge also probably has power. If you remove the outside cover you'll see where the fridge is plugged in. You can test the outlet there.

Phil,

Just a thought, but make sure when plugging into the electrical pedestal that you flip the breakers OFF before plugging in. If the breaker is on, you make have an electrical arc that will damage the pigtail.

Like said above, you just change the AUTO switch to go between gas and electricity on the fridge.
