electrical cords being stolen

Heard this on another RV forum. A lot of people have had their electrical cords stolen for the copper. One man lost his in his driveway. He was getting his camper ready for a trip and just went inside house for 10 minutes and came outside and it was gone. They cut it off up to the place that the cord was stored in the cord storage hole.
Price of copper is high now.

My dealer warned me of that, and suggested I padlock it to the ladder. Especially the big 50A. I never did, as I didn't want them to damage the ladder when they steal it. Frustrating.

People will steal anything! But I haven't heard about this type of thing going on. Guess you just have to watch things really carefully and hope you're lucky.

Stay safe.

Since copper has been so high, there have been guys electrocuted trying to steal copper from power stations and other places of high voltage. I believe there was one or two here in Colorado. That is happening all over the USA.

Sure is, we hear it on the news all the time. Several buildings have had to be torn down, cause they did so much damage getting the wire out, and of course, stole the copper plumbing too, and I think most of the fixtures, electrical and plumbing. Can do thousands of dollars worth of damage in no time at all. Pathetic.

Boy, It would take two men and a boy to steal that 50A Monster Cord.

Some thieves have also stripped the aluminum siding right off the houses.
Are you guys sure you want those autoformers outside? Bolt cutters are probably in their list of tools used.

We have had a lot of copper thefts up in the NW too. Mostly from new house construction. I worry about my cable that is plugged into my 3650RK and into my back garage.

As for the people that were electrocuted while trying to steal copper - You play with fire and you get burned. Not very Christian of me, but I can't feel sorry for them. I do feel for there wives or girlfriends and their children. We(all of US) will probably have to support.

If I offended anyone, I appoligize.

Down in Texas and arizona, air conditioning coils were the item of choice, especially the big units sitting outside businesses. It is to the point many businesses are building cages around the air conditioners. It sure is nice to be parked in an rv park, where you can empty all of your belongings in the Tana on to the ground, take the Tana in for servicing, come back 5 hours later, and still have all of your goodies there to reload. That is why we love rving, because there sure are a bunch of nice folks at rv parks. Ya'all be safe and have a happy holiday.

Well, I for one am offended by the electrocution remark. Nobody invited me to bring my lawn chair and watch. I bet that was one hair raising event to see.

We had a real "Grinch" event down here in Tyler, Texas: thieves broke through a protective fence and demolished two large heat pumps which were providing warmth at the Salvation Army building where volunteers were preparing Christmas packages during the day.

Fortunately, two local businesses jumped in promptly and donated replacement units. The thieves were obviously after the copper.

Just how on earth do you lock an electrical cable to the ladder??
A set of bolt cutters and they cut the lock or the cable and most are not stupid enough to cut a live wire. If they were that stupid instead of a epidemic of copper wire thieves we'd have an epidemic of funerals and most of them in Potters Field.

This just one reason why I carry my Mark IV Colt 45 Auto. I would just love to catch someone in the act of sealing any of these items from my rig. I can tolerate a lot things to inlcude lying, but a thief of any shape, form, or fashion is not allowed. I am NOT afraid to protect me and mine! Being offensive is easy for me. Happy Holiday!

My daughter is employed at a local salvage yard, in the office, weighing the loads coming in, and she is always getting calls from the police and sheriff telling them to look out for certain items. Some idiots are so stupid they steal the aluminum seats from the city park and go straight there to sell them! It is comforting to know there are some people out there watching over us. Like Native Tex says, don't worry about the dog, worry about the owner!

As much as I agree with the poster who has his .45 ready to dispatch any thieves he may catch attempting to steal his property,I would advise him not to use deadly force against someone stealing property, who if caught would only amount to a misdameanor charge. I don't know about the law where he lives but in WA State you can't do that unless you are prepared to suffer the consequences.

I too hate thieves and others who have no respect for someone elses property. Due to the screwed up legal system in effect in this country a little "STREET JUSTICE" would be nice to implement.
