LCD TV In Freezing Temps

Can anyone provide information on LCD flat panel TVs in sub-freezing temps. Will they freeze in below zero temps?

Your operating manual will probably tell you the operating range of the TV. We don't bring all the electronics into the house in the winter, but we also do not turn them on until we reach warmer temps when traveling south in the winter.

This is a very good question. If you can provide the brand and model of your LCD TVs, we can probably look up the Storage AND Operating temperatures allowed by the manufacturer. This might vary a little bit from model to model, brand to brand but probably not by much.

I can relate with refrigerators because we had one one in our garage. Two years straight years of 30 degree weather and it finally broke. The make and model we had a much higher operating temperature, so it did eventually fail when the temp got too cold.

For LCD TVs, I looked up a Sony Bravia and it had an above 41 degree requirement as an operating temperature (I did not look up storage - sometimes you can store in lower temperatures, just don't try and use it until you can get it warmed up to the operating temperature.. I imagine most TVs will probably not operate below 40 degrees. But an internet check can confirm.

This topic was discussed back in December. Here is a link to three pages of information. Also included is a link to a similar discussion on RVnet.

Mine is left in the unit all winter (26" View Sonic) and the Western NY Temps do get below zero from time to time. I don't turn the TV on until spring when the temp is above 60 degrees and I have not had any problem. I would say when cold outside, leave the TV shut off.
