Hi Montana Sky, I agree the fuel conditioners are just Snake oil. I don't put anything in our Trucks except Diesel, and Rotela oil and change the oil and filters, AC delco filters, all these Gadgets are just a waste of your money, in my (OPINION) only. I have a little over 5,000 miles on the 3500 and will change the oil after this trip will be about 6,000 miles by then, this just a short trip and then will change the oil at 10,000 miles. Going today and getting the second A/C installed and go on to Clarksville Tn. and see the Kids and Grandkids.
As others have said, I would change the fuel filter, and I hope that fixes you problem. Good Luck.... GBY....

Lindy,
I guess I can only say I learned the hard way...err...expensive way. After I run out of the conditioner I already have in the garage, I will not be buying any more. Enjoy that 2nd a/c! Loved the pics.

Lindy -
What are you seeing for fuel economy on your 3500? I pick mine up Saturday and am hoping I get the same as my 2004 2500HD. My 2500HD was a great vehicle, but I've decided that I want to stay under 100k on my TV. I will probably keep a new fuel filter handy, as that's the only issue that I had my whole time.

Ron,
The LMM is not getting anywhere near the fuel economy of the LB7. Check out dieselplace.com as there are many surveys about the fuel economy between the LB7, LLY, LBZ, and LMM.

We never used fuel conditioner of any kind on any vehicle till we got this 08 diesel with the new emission standards. IMO there are a lot of unknowns concerning cetene rating and lubricity of the ULSD and its effect on these new engines.I have no idea if the additives is needed or not. Ford has no problem with it and will recommend it..I just don't know.

Today we got 10.5 as Dave said the new Trucks aren't doing as well as my 2007 Chevy Classic, the 2008 Chevy 3500 is equiped the same way. First I got 11 mpg, needless to say I didn't like that. However it is getting better now just over 5,700 miles. I ran 60 mph today so if I can get 10+ towing I want complain. If you stand on it, it want do well at all. But I Love the Duramax/Allison. Good Luck with the new ride. It is a towing machine. I'm still trying to find the sweet spot, on the trip back I will run 65 mph but I always stay under 65. The 2nd A/C doing fine CW done a good job. GBY....

It could be the fuel filter or like Ontmont experienced, and so do I, it could be the injectors. I also experienced power loss (wouldn't go over 48 mph) and had the injectors replaced under warranty.

Bill -
I had mine checked out by Chevy because I couldn't believe it was the filter after less than 2,000 miles. But, after charging me for hooking it up to the diagnostics and then charging me for the filter, it was fixed. Had it happen again a year ago at Christmastime and it was the same thing. Hit 2000 rpm and wouldn't go any higher - if I recall it was about 48 mph. I thought sure it might be injectors also. So injectors and filters must have similar symptoms.

Hi guys and gals,
We are home and hubby had the fuel filter replaced in Kinder, LA. A great young man at a garage said he could replace the filter without a problem. Hubby thought he would have to drive to Lake Charles to get the filter replaced. We had the filter replaced and had no problems pulling the rig home from Kinder LA.
Thanks for your input, we feel that the replacement of the fuel filter solved the problem. We had no towing problems coming home and had to stop four times going up. We will be replacing the fuel filter more often in the future as it does shut the truck down and prevents you pulling. Thank goodness we had the problems we did where we did, as we could have been in the middle of Houston between concrete barriers blocking traffic on a two lane highway.
We will be checking more information as to when is the best time to replace the fuel filter. A fried changes his himself, hopefully hubby will learn to change his own and carry one in the Monty.
Thanks again for info guys and gals.
Changing the filter did the trick.
God Bless you and yours,
Colleen

This is right out of the Chevy brochure. Pin weight on 2500HD -3000 lbs, 3500 lbs on 3500HD - it doesn't differentiate between the SRW or DRW. GCWR for the 2500HD and the 3500SWR is 22,000 and for the 3500HD DRW is 23,500.
|
This is more confusing data from GM. The numbers for the pin weights (3000/3500) are the maximum allowable. What they do not tell you is that no GM 3/4 ton diesel can handle any where near 3000# PW and remain within the 9200 GVWR. The only 3/4 that can handle it is the gasser...which is much lighter due to no heavy diesel engine. However, the gasser is restricted by a much lower GCWR. All vehicles starting with model year 2005 were and are required to have a Tire and Loading Information sticker, which is on the left rear door pillar. It lists the cargo capacity for that specific vehicle. Chevy 3/4 ton 4wds with the D/A typically have maximum cargo capacities of around 23/2400#.
