Car wash?
Okay, this is pretty dumb, BUT... with a dually (my first), how hard is to find a car wash? I went to one today but didn't want to put the duals on that pipe rail thingy that pushes the truck along thru the car wash.

Mike,
I've not seen any that will accommodate the duallies. One time they ran mine thru the regular style by running one side up on the rails. I've not taken it back since then. Don't think it hurt anything but I just don't like the idea. So now I hire a local kid to wash it or take it to a regular wash and have them do it by hand. It's getting pretty expensive to do that so I think my local kid is going to get more work.
When we're on the road we sometimes will take the rig to a truck wash. When we were in IN a few years back we got both truck and trailer washed for $40. They did a really good job.

Chuck found out the hard way that some do it your self car washes have a larger entrance than exit. Cost over $1000 to get truck fixed.

How convenient! We will be in Clarksville tomorrow and my truck is DIRTY! Can you tell me where the wash is located? I'll scout it out before putting my dually in "danger", but if it looks okay, I'll give it a try.

Being an owner of a car wash (4 Self Serve Bays and 2 Touchless Automatic Bays) I understand your dilemma since I'm also about to be an owner of a dually. I do not know of one car wash in the entire Chicagoland area that can wash dually's in an automatic bay. Many Automatic machines can wash dually's but when they install the guide rails, they install them around 7'. I think you may need up to 8 feet to do most dually's. Also, the width is not the only issue, it's the length as well. Ours can handle an F350 Crew Cab Long Bed. I do not know why they install the guide rails where they do (we bought our car wash already built) since there is a market for Dually's in our area and others.
Good News - I will be installing new guide rails on one of our automatic machines so it will take dually's by the end of the summer. So, if you're every in the northern Illinois (Antioch) area stop by and get your truck washed.

I'm surprised so many use car washes...never taken any vehicle I've owned to one. I wash my vehicles and do all the basic maintenance myself, at least then I'll know it's done right...or know for sure who screwed it up!

Mostly wash the truck in my driveway, but when traveling, I use the hand wash bays ... always been plenty of room in and out. Ahhh the mist in the air ... water vapor in the lungs ... running out of rinse cycle halfway through the last fender ... life gets no better! Ha!

Okay, okay...I'm resigned to doing it myself. It's just that I've gotten lazy in my later years and have no problem watching a couple of young kids sweating instead of me.
I guess the interesting point is that when I selected the dually, I never thought about car washes, having never owned one before.
I do have to say that the stability of the dually with the 3400 versus the 06 SRW is awesome.

Be careful in those manual washes, though. Our 2005 F250 got its one and only ding when the time ran out and the metal wand dropped when the pressure stopped and dinged the hood.

To solve the problem of the dually tire and if a automated car was is your thing, why cant you remove the outer dually and fold the mirrors in, then take it to the car wash.

Ah, that explains several trucks I've seen around the university this past spring; they took the tires off to wash their truck -- all this time I thought they'd had a flat or two and used the 'spare' from the rear to fix the flat one . It does make a truck look strange with those wide rear flairs and no tire under it.

I don't own a dually, and have a hard time understanding why anyone would want one. I know there are several positives for them, but the negatives just outweigh the positives for my use. IMHO
Using a good soft brush, a bucket of soapy water and not that much elbow grease, the outside of the truck can be clean in about 45 minutes. I found that those manual car washes are only useful to me when I have thick mud where the high pressure is a bonus.
I like to wash the truck without the stress of the money-timer!
