And it took us five or six connections with a lot of different methods to finally get it to lock.

I hit it hard. I hit is soft. I hit it high. I hit it low. It could not, would not, want to go.

Haha, well, one that that seemed to work was hitting it good and hard, and then starting to drive forward, then the latch would go in. But just yesterday even that little trick wouldn't work. So I added in the variable of putting more and more hitch weight on it, which seemed to work yesterday.

Oh yeah, I also put my pickup in the garage for a couple of hours to get it above freezing then pumped more grease into the zerk. But I still had to do the 'hitting hard' and putting more and more weight on it.

Any advice?!? Is this thing defective? I don't mind there being a special way to hold my mouth. I just want to know what that is.
Are you using one of those teflon lube plates on your pin box ? We had a guy camped next to us get ready to leave one morning ,and could not get his hitch latch to close . His teflon lube plate was a little nicked up, and he had such close tolerance on his hitch, the combination of the teflon lube plate ,and being a little nicked up created just enough height that wouldn't let the latch close. I suggested taking off that lube plate , and it closed right up. You might want to give that a try, nothing to lose for sure if you are using one of those lube plates .

One time we tried to unhitch our PullRite slider, the jaws would not open. CW advised we needed to spray grease on jaws. Now, every time we hook up, we spray the jaws with that grease. Haven't had another problem.

Sometimes you need to take pressure off the hitch for the jaws to open. Do this by moving the truck a TINY amount.
