Residential refridge ice maker

Hello all, the ice maker in our Samsung residential fridge quit making ice. Any ideas on why this is happening and how to remedy? Working fine otherwise. I've let it melt between trips, no help. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Randy

My first thought: do you have the ice maker turned ON. With the Samsung, off is actually on, and on is actually off.

If you do not see the little ice icon at the top, the ice maker is actually on.

If you see the little ice icon at the top, the ice maker is actually off.

Yes, I know, totally opposite that completely defies logic. But its the way they designed it. Check to make sure the icon is actually NOT showing. It will be on then.

Good luck.

Also, check to make sure you have water flowing, both valves open, etc. Try cycling the ice maker manually to see if it works. There is a tiny button under the front which you can barely feel. Press and hold and it should cycle and dump tray, then fill with water if it's working.

If the I/M is on as per others here, then I suggest replacing the I/M if you cannot get it to manually cycle by pressing the small square button at the front under the housing.

So, that switch is on the front of the I/M? Do I pull the cover off to locate it?
Thanks for the help. Randy

It's on the bottom front. No need to remove any covers. The pix is looking up under the i/m and the button is slightly left of dead center. That front plastic cover just covers part of the bottom. Make sure to hold the switch ~5 seconds.

It just happens I replaced my Samsung ice maker yesterday. The first thing you won’t to do is check the one you have. Take the ice box out. You may need to defrost first. Grab under the bottom pull up and back. Then you will find a blue rubber piece on the top right side about 2 inches from the front. There is a small button under the rubber push to hold for a few seconds. You should here one chime if it doesn’t chime or keeps chiming your ice maker is bad. Yours could be just turned off. Your Manuel will tell you how to turn it back on.
If it’s bad Google Samsung ice maker find Applance Dr video. He has a great video on replacing this ice maker. He will take you though ordering one to replacing it. The hardest part is figuring which one to order. It should cost about $100 including shipping and about 30 minutes to replace it. It’s so easy even a country boy like me can do it.

Brought the rig home yesterday, hooked up the water, let the fridge run on the inverter. I've got 4X6 volt deep cycle batteries (Interstate) backed up by 3 solar panels (not sure of wattage). Came out this morning and bingo! We've got ice. Can't believe on is off and off is on. Who woulda thunk? Thanks for all the suggestions. Gonna archive this thread for future reference. Off to the Central Cali Coast tomorrow for a week. Hope the smoke or fire don't get us. Thanks again, Randy

We had to take the false back off the cupboard next to the fridge. Found a valve there. Where is the 2nd valve?

2nd valve

On our 2020 3811MS, there's a second valve behind the drawer under the stove. DH had to take the drawer out to get to it.

I've been following the ice maker threads because we didn't have ice the first couple of trips and we thought it was a faulty ice maker. After reading the manual (as a last resort) and watching something on YouTube, he got it working and it churns out more ice than we can use.

The valve under the sink empties water out of the bottom of the unit like for when you are winterizing. We did pull the drawer under the stove out but no valve there. We just took delivery of a 3121RL.

It won't empty under the unit with the cap on. You can use that to drain the ice maker line, but it should also feed cold water to the ice maker, usually with a second valve behind the bottom cabinet left of fridge. You'll need to remove the panel at the back of the cabinet to find it.

Are you saying there should be a cap on the end of that drain hose? It does have threads but no cap. Where would we get that cap? Thank you all so much.

Yes. I have 2 drain hoses. Both came with caps. One is the ice maker drain and the other is the fresh water tank drain behind the rear axle. I think it is a standard hose thread so you may be able to get a cap at Home Depot or Lowes.
